Xml import -- advantages of xml 4?

Hi all,

this was discussed some years ago but it would be interesting to know from users who have imported xml to Dorico both from Finale before version 27 and after; are there any important advantages?

I am pondering whether I should get the latest Finale version just for the xml export (I have v 25).

I also have wondered this, and would consider purchasing Finale 27 if there were some distinct advantage in the xml 4 export to Dorico.

The changes / improvements are described in the version history

I think Daniel has commented on this somewhere here before, though I can’t find it.

There may be some small benefits now; but chiefly it’s also about future benefits – that Dorico (or other apps) might be able to do more with the XML4 data.

Also, I think I’ve heard that if you send in a support request to MM, saying that you have an older copy of Finale, and you already have Dorico, that they’ll just give you F27.4.

Oh! that’s certainly worth trying.
And I didn’t think at all about future benefits, but you definitely have a point there.

Just for the record, in case it helps other users: I contacted MakeMusic support, and they kindly upgraded my license to include Finale 27. Very generous!
