is it possible to import an xml file into an existing project in dorico for ipad?
If not, I’d like to see it in the future.

No, at the moment it’s only possible to open a MusicXML file and produce a new project, not import into an existing project, but it’s been requested before and we will think about how we might be able to handle this in future.
