I have a very serious problem: I have a Yamaha P525 piano connected to a “Presonus studio 68c” via USB-C and with inputs 3 and 4 that should send the sound to the Krk active monitors via R and Left line. I’ve never had problems with Logic Pro which I normally use nor with Sibelius. Can you explain to me then why with Dorico 6.1 can’t hear the P525 through the speakers?? In fact with Halion there is no problem. But it is very strange that with other software everything works fine.
Do you mean that Dorico doesn’t receive MIDI from the piano? Have you set the keyboard to be an input device in Dorico’s Preferences?
Read carefully, I didn’t say it doesn’t receive the MIDI signal, but the sound doesn’t come out of the speakers, which is a different matter. Moreover, I’ve never had this problem with Logic Pro!
So Dorico receives the MIDI input (because the piano is selected as an input device in Dorico’s Preferences; and you can see the little green light in the bottom right corner when you play the keys) – but doesn’t produce any sound when you play.
Is “Enable MIDI Thru” on? Also in Preferences > Play.
First and foremost, regardless of computer, when you play the P525 with volume up and speakers on, do you hear it?
Second, is this a new problem? Did things work and suddenly stop working?
Third(ly), check Edit → Device Setup… and make sure the presonus (ASIO) driver for your device is chosen. E.g., I have an 1824c and there’s an entry for Studio 1824c
Lastly, Help → Create Diagnostics
The crazy thing is that by leaving Logic Pro (which is truly pro) open simultaneously with Dorico 6.1, I can hear what I’ve written in Dorico through the speakers and also what I play in real time. This Dorico is truly professional… (sic!)
Absolutely!
- No noise 2) Always 3) Obvious. Finally, I think it’s useless.
I’m on a Mac, not Windows, no drivers or device setup is needed.
This is because Logic Pro has a feature called “Virtual Out” that Dorico intercepts and is in fact present in Dorico’s Preferences. The brilliant Apple Logic Pro developers have solved the cumbersome workarounds of the Steinberg folks.
Can you say whether Note Entry works with the keyboard? E.g. press keys and get notes on the page, regardless of sound.
To fully understand what’s going on with your system, please provide a Diagnostic Report from the Help menu. This will provide the Dorico team with information specific to your setup, which may help to explain what’s going on.
People have problems with Logic, Sibelius, Pro Tools, etc every day. I know it’s frustrating when things don’t work, but computers are complicated and everyone’s setup is unique.
Luckily, Logic Pro has a feature called “Virtual Out” that Dorico intercepts, and in fact, it’s present in Dorico’s Preferences. The brilliant Apple Logic Pro developers have solved the cumbersome workarounds of the Steinberg folks.
Now I play, write, and listen through my speakers without any problems. Thanks to Logic Pro
I’m sure there is a solution with Dorico, because this is not a problem experienced by many users.
If you want to pursue it, then people will be happy to help you.
