Imagine Kontakt merged into Halion, Halion being able to open Kontakt instruments
It would be a huge asset merger, bringing many people into Steinberg.

Imagine Steinberg/Yamaha adopting NKS ![]()
For the love of God please don’t…
Care to expand?
Just a subjective opinion. I never gelled with the NI stuff and consciously have none of it. So I’d rather have HALion stay HALion and Kontakt stay Kontakt.
What is it about the NI stuff you didn’t gel with? GUI? Quality?
The biggest problem with Halion is they haven’t been able to break big into the 3rd party market. I feel like any time there has been a 3rd party developer, it has been sort a contrived collaboration between Steinberg and the developer - although that is just speculation.
If Halion were to adopt Kontakt, it definitely wouldn’t be a simple task… Figuring out how to adopt the FX/Modulation/Controls rack into the Halion GUI for example… But the payout is, incorporating what, 20 years or so of a developed market.
Perhaps NKS format could be adopted without the rest of the Kontakt jingles, ie, people could at least import multi-sampled instruments and have them translate. That alone would be a huge win for Steinberg business wise. Not to mention, their relatively new live performance software VST Live could read nks.
No. bad idea. Keep developing Halion.
That is developing Halion.
But also, developing Halion requires money and strong user base, 3rd party developers if Halion is to continue.
