Zoom a project correctly on opening the project?

Windows 11 on PC
Cubase 12.0.60 Pro and every previous version for many years

Every time I open a project for years now, the project always opens up zoomed in slightly too much. I usually zoom my projects to full horizontal extents just before saving them in the hope that the next time I open the project it will be presented with the full project timeline visible.

But no. Every time, the project opens slighly overzoomed so I cannot see the end of the song, and I have to issue a Zoom Full command manually to see the whole song horizontally.

This happens even if I have correctly set the length of the project in the Project Setup window.

Anyone found a cure?

Anyone else experiencing the same?

It’s not a big problem, but it shouldn’t be like this and it is an ongoing annoyance for many years now.

Hi,

The Zoom level is not stored with the project. This is why.

And why not? Surely this is a basic and simple requirement.

Even if it is not stored, Cybase could surely be made to do a Zoom Full on loading a project instead of contantly slightly underzooming the project, which is aggravating.

Hi,

I would recommend you to make a new proper feature-request thread.

Not for many users, apparently. Cubase has the means to do what you’re asking, for example, you can use a Workspace, then it should do what you want.

But hitting one keystroke doesn’t seem onerous to me at all.

That’s not quite true.
Vertical zoom is stored.

Just checked saving with a new horisontal zoom. Closed Cubase. Reopened and loaded the show and indeed it opened with the same zoom settings.
I don’t think I have a very special version of Cubase.

Hi,

Do a proper test, please. Save 2 projects with different Zoom levels (“max”, “min”). Then open project A and then B. Or make a 3rd project with Zoom “mid”. Then open project A and then B. You will see they will not open in the “max” and “min” Zoom level.

Hmm. This is strange. Testing it just now, and it IS saving the horizontal zoom level.

But I have definitely had it not doing this over many years. I tend to zoom projects to Full horizontal zoom before saving them, and have definitely had the niggle fo them opening slightly over zoomed on next load, so I can’t see the end of the song without doing a manual zoom full.

I’ll keep an eye on this and report back if I can work out what difference is causing this, because right now it is working fine.

Computers can be weird

That’s what I do, and it happens to me every time I open a project… to the degree of clicking my key command for “Zoom Full” automatically at start up.
It is a bit strange, but not much of a hazzle IMO

Same here. Not the end of the world, but annoying enough that I’m keeping a keen eye on this thread to see if there’s a fix/workaround!

OK, so not just me then.

I don’t understand this attitude by some above saying it’s not a big deal. Where is that argument going?

Surely if something is not right, it should be fixed. Big deal or not.

I have hardware controllers with a button mapped to Zoom Full, but I’d still like this fixed properly.

Where do I do that? It’s not obvious - there is no feature request section in the left column here.

Hi,

Add the feature-request optional tag to the post, please.

Aha. Thanks… Done

Even if it’s annoying, and not the biggest deal, there are certainly much larger bugs that should be fixed first IMO

It was just about setting things in perspective… but whatever

I saw this zoom problem. But there is another one in my house that bothers me more.
when I have a total zoom of the project if I open a directory the zoom always changes and I have to readjust the zoom to have on the screen what I want to see.

What do you mean by ‘open a directory’? Do you have an example?

Try setting up a Project Workspace and then saving it. Does that solve the problem?
