7.03 Hang-ups upon closing - Anyone else?

Ok, at least now we know it doesn’t work for you. That’s all.

I have read the entire thread. You could have asked before assuming I haven’t. It’s a subject close to my heart as I would dearly like to see this issue resolved for everyone.

The thread title is: “7.03 Hang-ups upon closing - Anyone else?”

If the title was: "7.03 Hang-ups upon closing, without loading a session, - Anyone else " You might have a point.

I’m just trying to help here and if my findings helps anyone at all then my work is done.

Edit: I can’t see my dongle to see if there is any blink activity on closing but I do not discard that the underlining problem could be dongle related. It well could be, but getting SB to recognize that is something else.

With my setup, sometimes it hangs, sometimes it takes 5+min. to close, sometimes <30sec. (7.0, 7.01, 7.02, 7.03, all version 6.5x, and prob. 6.0.x but I cant remember for sure)

I’ve been frustrated by this for YEARS!

Trust me, this as been going on for a very long time

I dont have this problem. but it seems that all who has problems with Cubase, hangin upon closing the program, are using Intel cpu. I was just wondering if anyone had these problems with Amd cpu?

I am using an Intel cpu. I would be interested to see if anyone using an AMD has this issue. Thing is, if nobody comes out and says “yes me”, that doesn’t mean that there isnt an AMD user somewhere who has this problem.

That said, I think there are in fact Intel users who don’t have this problem. Assuming that’s true, that would all but erase the possibility of this being cpu related.

Cheers.

Intel cpu on two systems, no hang on exit.

Yes. Always closes late.

Two '“A Serious problem has occured” crashes in 7.0.3

Cubase is supposed to work flawlessly on the HP workstations - I believe they use Intel CPUs!
Now having said that, I’m hard pressed to find the HP info on the Steinberg site at all any more - perhaps they found out it wasn’t so compatible after all :astonished:
At any rate, no hang on my workstation with an Intel Xeon E3-1225V2 - same as used in the HPs.

Intel CPU and Intel MB.

HAAANNGGGGGG.

i seem to have narrowed it down to the plugin Dorrough Stereo running on my Mix Buss. when this plugin is loaded and i try to close i get Hang. if i remove the plugin and then try to close i get Hang. basicially if i ever load the plugin at any time in any session during the day and whether it is loaded later or not, if the plugin has been loaded sometime as part of my work, even if i am just later staring at a Default empty session when i close, …HANG.

are you also running Dorrough?

I’m confident this issue has nothing to do with Intel processors. There are more Intel processors out there than any other, yet this problem is a comparatively minority thing.

All the other software I run on my PC close as they should, and since I’ve been implementing my little trick, Cubase is a lot better. Before then I would get hang-on-close about 30% of the time, whether or not I had plug-ins on the 2buss.

As far as I’m aware, this issue affects both MAC and PC users. So you have to ask yourself, what is the one common factor?

The dongle perhaps? Just a thought. I know nothing about programming or coding. It’s the black arts to me, but is it possible that some dongles have an idiosyncratic flaw that could intermittently cause a perpetual loop on a close call?

In short, I have no friggin idea, but when the obvious fails it’s usually time to look at the not so obvious.

Occam’s razor isn’t good 100% of the time.

…or turn to the supernatural !! :open_mouth:
It’s almost definitely GREMLINS ! :astonished:

I do not have Dorrough, therefore that is not the root cause.

Dunno if this will help, but an M-Audio Midisport 8x8 causes mine to hang on exit.
If I power the Midisport off before starting Cubase all is well. If it is on while using Cubase, I get hangs
from time to time when trying to quit.

Lol! Probably not since I’m a sceptic who makes Richard Dawkins look like the Pope, and superstition just brings me bad luck…

It’s almost definitely GREMLINS ! > :astonished:

Just not the conventional ones!

That’s interesting cause I’ve got a Midisport 4X4. Had it for years, and have to have it on too because my MIDI controller/keyboard is a Yamaha AN1x, which connects via the Midisport. Unique little synth too, but I digress…

I’m long past ruling anything out but I doubt the problem is MIDI based. Everyone uses MIDI of some description, don’t they?

But thanks. All suggestions are welcome.

Confirmed. But it happens only occasionally and is not reproducable. The only pattern I could make out so far:
A lot of project-loading and project-closing action seems to increase the probablity of a hang-up.

Dr. Max

Random hangs on startup here on 7.0.3 OSX 10.8.3 and 10.8.4

I had frequent hang-ups in Cubase 6.5 until I disabled Novation Automap. After that it got better. I haven’t used Cubase 7 a lot but I seems like I can close the program without getting hang-ups.

basicially it looks like some kind of plugin or driver is causing Cubase to hang and Steinberg have not done their homework and made Cubase tidy up memory cleanly upon its exit.

For me its the Waves Dorrough plugin (its a level meter) on my Mix Buss that cubase is not closing properly, for some others it might be a different plugin. but i think any plugins on your Mix buss is a good place to start looking at. The mix buss is particially sensitive because the plugins on there need to run in real-time, as opposed to a plugin on an audio track, for instance, where Cubase knows it has audio coming up and runs some of the processing ahead.

but either way Cubase is not doing enough when closing down to properly exit, thats for sure.

I am having the the problem of Cubase hanging on exit. Every single time.
