About selection in 3D-view

When selecing datapoints in the 3D-view and moving the viewpoint, are we still selecting the same datapoints?

IME yes if the selection doesn’t move…I find the actual selection is from directly above the zero plane…3D is a visual to see cross section of amplitude…that is my experience…and I’m very new here…I’d love hear what @Robin_Lobel has to say on this
