Acustica Audio plugins crashes cubase

I know people mentioned it before on earlier Cubase versions, but there seems to be no solution for this even in last Cubase update…

all of acustica audio plugins freeze Cubase randomly when trying to close or replace them I have to force quit Cubase trough task manager - this happens mainly in big projects approximately every 4-5 acustica plugin I close or try to replace freeze Cubase.
also, Cubase freezes every time I close or quit a project that has any acustica plugin loaded into it.

asio guard on/off doesn’t change anything
happens with every acustica audio aqua plugin regular and zero latency version.

this never happens with Reaper or Ableton on my system only with Cubase so I guess it Cubase problem and not acustica audio problem.

I know people posted it on much earlier Cubase versions but in 10.5 I thought it would be resolved, please fix it or guide us if there’s a workaround.

I’m using Cubase 10.5 on pc with windows 10 last update.

Hello,

not so easy to determine where the problem is, as all software is built differently and thus interacts differently with the OS, other programs and third-parties.

Could you please force a dump while Cubase is hanging?
Task Manager -> Right-click -> Create dump file (you might need to upload it as they become quite big)

I have worked on a few similar cases, if yours matches the other ones, the application reaches a breakpoint in D3D11Warp.dll.
OpenGL plugins can be heavy on UI resources, the more instances open, the heavier (using AMD or NVIDIA can also yield different results, I was never able to reproduce the issue with AMD - there are cases where this is actually reversed).

Did you contact Acustica about that? They have pretty specific recommendations, especially for the ZL versions.

i talked with acustica support team couple of month back about this problem before i updated to 10.5 i was still on 10.0.4 and sent them a dump file.

this is their response:
Hello ori,

Do not use ZL instances in high load sessions. Additionally, our products OS target is still Windows 10 1803 due in our opinion is till the more stable version for audio production. We suggest you to send DMP file also to Steinberg for a second advice.

don’t know if this dump helps you but let me know if you want me to reproduce a new one

i haven’t used the zero latency versions of the plugins since then but it didn’t help still same freezes…
i don’t think it a windows update problem because it happens only in cubase and not reaper and ableton

That crash definitely not of the same kind I described above, looks more like it was being instantiated, rather than a dead-lock on close.
If you can get a dump while Cubase hangs, we would be sure it’s the correct thing to look at.

But we cannot further debug that snippet: the last 12 calls are their encrypted debug symbols.
I would be able to guess a bit more seeing the loaded module, but it would still be guessing: you can see the affected area, but no details whatsoever.

I am very interested about a solution as I have exactly the same problem : I made multiple test and it happen only with acustica plug in. If i use it on a project, cubase freeze on exit. If I open and close the project without saving or tweak button on plugin l, its ok.

Did you solved that?

You can do that as well - the text should be pasted in full (at least Exception Analysis, Stack Text and the follow-up containing image- module- and exception-info are needed).
But if the hang is in Cubase itself, we’ll need the actual .dmp file.

You can also use ProcDump instead of forcing the memory dump, the output file will be much, much smaller.

To me it seems, the issue is in the ACQUA plug-in and then on the graphic card. What graphic card do you use, please?

Thanks you… Yes I was pretty sure it came from aqua plug in as I made multiple test with and without. I dont have a specific graphic card, Its the Intel
HD Grahics 4600. I Tcheck if I miss an upgrade for it.

Hi, I would really like to upload a crash dump but the problem is that Cubase freeze and does not crash so it doesn’t generate a crash dump. So I have to kill the cubase.exe provess in Task Manager everytime.

I am using an nVidia graphic card with the latest drivers from manufacturer.

Let me try with the Windows drivers instead.

Please use Microsoft ProcDump utility to generate a DMP file when an application freezes.

If you .zip or .rar the file, it reduces in size considerably. I have exactly the same issue as everyone here. AA plugins + Cubase 10.5 = freeze on exit. It’s definitely d3d10warp.dll related and I would say the issue needs both Steinberg and Acustica to get their heads together as the issue resides in something happening between both products. Ed at Steinberg his doing his best to help at the moment and says he’s in touch with Acustica about it. Hopefully an answer will emerge reasonably soon.

You can create a .DMP from the Task Manager, right click on Cubase process and choose the option.
