Alignment of notes on a beat

In this case as shown below:

The notes on beat one (time sig 3/4) in two different voices are NOT vertically aligned - making it more difficult to sightread. So far I have found no way to make it so in neither write mode or engrave mode. Why can’t I just select the half notes and slide them over to align with the dotted quarter?

Please & thank you.

Hi @jim6, to change this you need to use the Voice column index property override which you can find in Engrave mode’s properties panel.

There is command to Swap the voice order (select a note in a voice>right click>Voices>Swap Voice Order), which takes care of those properties automatically:

Resulting property settings, after applying Swap Voice Order:

Or you can use/fine-tune this with Voice column spacing offset or Voice column X offset (depending on the situation) and Rhythm dot X properties:

(here an example of the values, after having swapped the voice content. If you don’t swap the voice content, you can directly experiment with those values)

There are also some global options (per flow) in Notation Options>Voices

(select a note in a voice>right click>Voices>Swap Voice Order) fixed it just fine! Thank you

Given that we have various existing options for interlocking/unison options, I wonder if someone of these scenarios could be handled by additional global options in future updates. Currently, the simple situation of neighboring notes in different voices where one is dotted and the other isn’t doesn’t have the same option as the otherwise identical unison situation. It’s easy to change the voice index to fix this, but if the way it’s handled is going to be a user’s preference every time, would make sense to just set and forget.
