So I’ve used the Amp rack with no major issues for the last month. But today it’s picking up my guitar signal, but the chosen Amp/Pedals are making no difference to the clean guitar sound. I did download a new driver yesterday, but that uploaded without an issue.
Please see screen shots of everything ( I think ) you’d need to spot an obvious error on my part.

I spotted it…
You need to turn the Mix knob on your audiointerface all the way to the right (DAW) in order to hear the signal coming out of Cubase.

Doesn’t it have to be turned to the left (input) if recording an instrument directly into the DAW? That allows you to hear the guitar? If I turn it to the right (DAW) it cuts the sound of the instrument.

if it’s turned to the left you will hear the raw signal that’s going into your audiointerface. If it’s turned to DAW you will hear the processed signal that went through Cubase first.
If you want to hear the processed signal while playing please activate the monitor button (speaker icon) on your guitar track in Cubase.

The speaker button is activated. When turned to the left I just get the clean guitar sound through the monitors, to the right, same but much quieter. No amp or pedal effects?

please make sure to push the Hi-Z button on your interface which will turn channel 2 into a Hi-Z input which is required for guitars if plugged in directly. Now, adjust the gain until it peaks at a max of approximately -18 to -12dB in your input channel in Cubase.
The screenshots show a muted channel that features the amp emulation. Please, make sure that it’s on the correct track and that it’s not muted… Is it track 9 or 11?
You could also try a delay as an insert just to make sure that the routing is correct. Of course, remove it afterwards.

The Hi-Z button is pushed in, I’d already tried not muted (no difference but took the screenshot with it muted), its track 11. I’m beginning to think it might be something to do with routing, but its showing channel 2? It’s doing my head in. I’m wanting to get on with the song.
I’ll try adding delay tomorrow and see what happens.

That’s very kind of you to say but there are many others around here who know their way around Cubase 
Do you use the DSPMixFx that comes with your audiointerface? Please have a look if the loopback function is engaged (it should be turned off).
But first things first, let’s see if you can hear a delay or any other obvious insert FX on the guitar track.
I’m finding the screenshots confusing - the track you’re highlighting is muted (guitar 1 02).

No I don’t use the DSPMixFX, didn’t know it existed. But on a positive note the Amp Rack is now working.
When setting up a new track I’m now getting the above options. The select hardware option I don’t remember being there prior to installing the new driver/firmware updates. I’ve selected the highlighted input in the connect to Bus section (no idea how I’ve ended up with one labelled Guitar!). Anyway, it’s working. Still not totally happy with the guitar sounds I’m getting, but there is sound. So thanks for all your help, and putting up with my questions. Really appreciated.
Hi Lee,
the hardware input section reflects all physical inputs that are available and recognized in Cubase. The busses show the inputs that you have initiated and named in Studio>Audio Connections> Inputs. In other words, they refer to the very same hardware outputs, it’s just your personal collection with individual names.
If I were you I would set them up properly once and for all under Audio Connections > Inputs just for the sake of avoiding future confusion. Just delete this ominous “Guitar” bus and start fresh, takes less than a minute. But you do you.
With regard to your guitar sound: The VST Amp Rack is a decent stock plugin but it can’t compete with professional emulations. You could trial UAD’s “Paradise Guitar Studio” which is really good (highly dynamic response to the incoming guitar signal, fun to play with). Fair warning: UAD’s latest privacy policies are not cool. Just so you are aware, maybe do a quick internet search beforehand if this is acceptable to you or not.
