Although I’ve read the thread about the crackles in v6.02, I’m opening a new topic, because my problem seems to be different.
On my system the ASIO spikes build up gradually. Everything seems to be ok on opening the project, but after a while I get more and more crackles. Quitting/relaunching Cubase helps for a while until the problem gradually builds up again. It seems as if something had to be flushed by quitting to get rid of the crackles.
The VST meter shows ~75-80% usage (which is another annoyance because the CPU load never goes above 15%), the memory usage is less than 40%.
Another symptom: same project, but with all VSTis frozen (w/ unload option selected), the VST meter shows ~5%. There are occasional audio hiccups (no crackles, but fast repetitions of an audio buffer) accompanied with an ASIO spike in the VST performance window, then everything goes back to normal.
Has anyone experienced a similar behaviour? The system used to work fine and I don’t think I missed any of the recommended system adjustments for audio applications on Win 7 64, but you never know…
The test project has no audio, just a few VSTis:
KORE2 with 7 instruments,
Dual Six-Core Opteron 2.2GHz
Supermicro H8DA8-2 mobo
Promise SuperTrak EX8650 8 channel RAID
Two Firewire800 cards
Two 21" Acer touchscreens
TC Powercore 6000
VirtuaVia expansion chassis with 4 EDS-1000 cards, 2 MECs
RME Fireface 800 (current buffer setting: 512, normally should work happily @96)
Native KORE 2
Novation Remote Zero SL
ESI M8U XL MIDI Interface
Win 7 64 bit
Native Komplete 5, Komplete 6
I’ve been using Cubase since the Atari days and I find it so tedious to have to struggle with the same things as in 1995.
