I am having a tough time on this one and would appreciate some direction.
Owing to the fact that Dorico does not handle cue creation originating from a cross-staff region such as a piano, I am resorting to a manual approach whereby I am attempting to collapse the two hands into one. This two-handed figure is a 12-note tuplet on the celesta that I need as a cue in several instrumental parts. This is the only instrument playing so I have no other option for a cue. The 12-note tuplet occupies a whole beat in a 4/4 bar and is repeated on every beat. In order to reduce the width of the bar, I need to use a slash region for beats 2-4.
The problem is, I also need the whole rest in a separate voice to indicate the player is still resting during the cue. Whenever I create the slash region for beats 2-4, the whole rest in the down-stemmed voice remains, but when I flip over to Print mode the whole rest disappears from both Write and Engrave modes.
The inability to have Dorico create a cue in this one situation has sent me down a rabbit hole costing the better part of a full day. How can I create such a cue in the least painful way possible? Or is the only way to insert text and add the glyph of the whole rest with ledger line and hand move into position? While that works it is the very last option Iād like to entertain. The end result Iām trying to achieve looks like this.
Like that?
If the problem is the āgrand staff instrumentā thing, use another player using another instrument (that you wonāt ātickā into the full score, and you can get rid of its layout too). Took me 2 minutes⦠Donāt waste time on these things, come here and ask!

Yes, like that
Ok, so what you suggested I just didnāt think of here, but I did think of in other areas. A problem I have run into there is I had to copy the entire contents of a given instrument for the purposes of getting bar repeats in the part but not score. So, although this is somewhat tangential, is there an easy way to say to Dorico, āhey, go copy this instrument/player to a new one AND ALSO CLONE EVERYTHING THEY HAVEā ?? If so, that would make these workarounds (for handling grand staff instrument cues and a temporary workaround to full bar repeats in score vs. parts) a lot less painful.
Thanks very much for your reply and help, Marc!
oh, that is something Iāve talked about in my rhythmic compression thread. My workaround for those is to duplicate the flow that has those repeats. One will serve the full score (without repeats), the other one is for the parts (at least those who have repeats). Tick the flows accordingly to the layouts. The only problem about this method is you no longer have an active connection between the score and the parts (for this flow and those parts that need repeats) so you have to be extremely careful when corrections have to be made.

Thanks again, Marc. Iāll go through that and see what I can learn.
