Over the next few months I’m going to overhaul my studio and was wondering about Monitors.
I don’t want an ultra wide as it will impact on my monitoring speakers.
So what’s the best option regarding a quality experience with Cubase.
you’d think 4k would be the best bet but I’m not sure 2k with 100% scaling might not be better as you have to run a 32inch 4k at 150% scaling and some plugins aren’t HiDpi aware so running a 2k at 100% might actually give a better overall experience.
I run a 32” 4k monitor at 100%. I wear glasses for reading and find ones just less than what I need to read a book fine at 100%. I don’t like scaling at all. A total waste of the resolution.
well, I just went out and had a look at some monitors in a shop and I actuall really like the wide curved 2k monitor I saw and @100% scaling it looked perfect and in no way did it look less quality than a 4K monitor @150.
So despite my original post I’ve ordered an Alienware(DELL) OLED 34inch wide monitor. 3440 x 1440 - 165 Hz
Just set up the new monitor… the OLED screen is another levbel to the LG I had before. The colours are another level of richness…black is deep back…
And At 100% scaling the 2k screen is perfect for everything and I’m not missing any clarity from my 4K screen at all, everything is crisp (to my old eyes) and overall the colours etc just seem clearer and easier on the eyes.
The screen comes with a proper callibration certificate too so you know that colours are acurate if you’re doing photo/video editing.
Still getting used to the curved screen
overall though a nice upgrade here.
Photos dont do it justice so there’s no point in attaching a photo.
Oh, yes, I think you are on to something. That would explain why the monitor in the middle of the room looks suspiciously curved like it has been photoshopped
@Norbury_Brook All banter aside - congrats on your new monitor, looks fab!
Please share how you adapt to a curved monitor. I am still hesitating to buy a curved one but who knows…
Small detail… it looks like several candles right in front of the monitor. Beware the candle smoke contains sticky/waxy residue that may ruin the finish on your monitor, especially if it’s a no-gloss matte coating.
