BlueNotes SMuFL Fonts! (RealBook Style)

Hi,

Based on my old NorPen handwritten fonts and being re-drawn from scratch, I released my newest SMuFL jazz font called "BlueNotes ", I hope you like the new design:

BOXED TEXTS

It’s possible to make awesome text boxing in Dorico and Finale v27. In Dorico by activating Underline, Overline or both.

Activating both Underline and Overline

Activating Underline

Activating Overline

Or by typing text combinations

Text combination: {Medium-swing}

Text combination: [Me d i u m S_w_in _g]

Text combination: ≤Melldillulmll IIS||wlin|g>

BONUS: 4 DIFFERENT TREBLE CLEFS

BlueNotes fonts feature 4 different treble clefs that you can access through Library/Music Symbols… in Dorico or through Document Options/Clefs/Clef Designer in Finale v27.

Hi @NorFont
I’m really impressed with your work. Congratulations! This font has that original Real Book flavour that I love for lead sheets.
I just wanted to ask you about the hybrid chord symbols or inversions such as C/Bb, C/E, etc. I find the slash a bit too big for the space I use to have on some tunes, ballads especially that may have four chords per measure. Do you know if there is a way to set up Dorico to present such a smaller slash?

Thanks in advance and greetings from Spain!

Hi Miguel,

Thanks and glad that you like my design

I made a video showing you how to do that in Dorico. Check it out!

Greetings from Morocco

Best,
–Nordine.

If that’s because you are using the “Diagonal arrangement” Engraving Options setting, Dorico doesn’t give you any control over the kerning here. I made a “Chord Symbols Slash Font” doricolib file that will allow you to reduce the size of the slash which will also reduce the kerning to improve the appearance:

I posted the file and a walkthrough in this thread:

Once correctly installed and you’ve restarted Dorico, you will have this functioning font style in any projects created from File / New. For existing projects you will have to use the Library Manager to bring it in.

What a great solution Fred! Thank you, will give it a try for sure.

p.s: @dspreadbury , please may you consider adding this solution by Fred in a future update of Dorico.

Hi all. I have just purchased BlueNotes from Norfonts. I can’t wait to get into using it as I continue my Dorico journey. It just looks fantastic. It has the look I’m trying to go for, I just didn’t quite find all the default fonts (even my old Finale standatd fonts) came out the way I wanted. So glad I have found this.
Also, the customer service by Nordine has been excellent. I did have an issue installing the font (the new OS throws a block up) and he responded almost straight away. Together we worked thru the issue. I’m very impressed.
(If you do encounter this, I ended up going to System/Privacy/Security after attempting the first install and allowing the install from Norfonts)
Thanks Nordine for your hard work in producing the fonts and also your customer service.
Highly recommended!!

Thanks a bunch, @Danny_E !!
I can’t wait to see some of those screenshot examples you’ve got.

I purchased the Bluenotes font… why is the “-” (minor) sign very thin in my scores (have a lot to my screenshots) but very thick in your screenshot presentation of this font on the top of this topic.
Thanks

PS// By the way, I would have appreciated if this font had a lowercase “m” for minor chords.

Set ‘Chord Symbols Music Text’ Font to: BlueNotes

Try also this setting too:

:

You may want to use Libray > Chord Symbols… to change the – by m from Finale Jazz Text Lowercase.

I believe you have three or four .doricolib files with the pack you purchased. Could you try importing them and see if they meet your requirements?

Hello Nordine,
Thank’s
That’s ok now for the “-” size symbol..

For the replacement of - by m from Finale jazz Text lowercase, I’m no sure that is possible with Element version of Dorico 6.

I’m glad to hear that those settings work on DE6 too!

By the way, you might also want to check out the trial version of Dorico 6. It’s a 60-day free trial (if I am not wrong) that lets you explore all the functional menus, like Chord Symbols, and experiment with different settings.
