Bugs in the audio controls for shared layers

The controls for a shared layer do not work properly if the “Shared MIDI Controls global” in the layer settings in the preferences are deactivated. If you change something in the above settings in the audio area and then select the other part with the shared layer, the changed settings (e.g. mute on/off, volume a little less, etc.) are sometimes displayed correctly visually (but not always!), but what you hear often does not match what VST Live displays (sometimes nothing is output even though theoretically something should be heard)…

will check.

That is MIDI. You show audio. Any plugin (Instrument) has its own Audio Channel, which is shared, it only exsists once because it belongs to the Instrument.

When “Shared MIDI Global” is activated, changes to MIDI (!) controls (Volume, Mute) are propagated to all Layers in the entire Project which share this Instrument. Else, each Layer refering to the shared Layer maintains its individual controls. Note that shared Layers inside a Part and with the same MIDI Channel are still linked, as there is only one common MIDI target.

One more thing: if you think that what you hear is not what you see, switch to MIDI to check if you accidently changed MIDI Volume or Mute. If you want to control Layers with Audio only, ctrl/click on the MIDI controls to set it to “NOT SET”, which prevents it to send any MIDI for those controls. You may need to set it to the desired volume beforehand to set the receiving Instrument to the desired value.

I’m not using MIDI controls at all.

I tried to record a video that shows the things not working properly with the layer controls of the duplicated layers. As you can see if I switch the parts the configurations (pan, volume) are not always reproduced/represented (visually and acoustically) correctly. MIDI controls in both layers is set to “NOT SET”, as I show in the video too.
As for me duplicated layers totally do not work properly. You do not experience the same behaviors if you are using duplicated layers as I do (shown in the video)?

Hi @UdoBehm !

Until developers can have a look on you video:
did you know, you can use “song and part independent” LAYER(s), called Global Layer(s)?

Maybe you won’t need it all, maybe you will find it handy:
Goto upper menu: PART / Create Global Part

  • Green stip appears on the top of songs
  • highlight that stip
  • create new LAYER (you will see an extra little marker for Global symbol… similar to Shared “S”)
  • configure as you configure LAYER.
Benefit are huge in many cases

… we’ll it and get back to you soon. Thank you for the video,
Michael.

@fkalmus Yes, I know.
I’m using them for connecting several keyboards to a virtual input in order I only need to use one visual input…
Of course I could also create a global layer and use this through my song. But to me the advantage of shared layers is exactly that I can use the same instrument over and over and change these settings, what currently doesn’t seem to work…
So I hope a lot that this will be fixed. I’m also experiencing trouble with other audio volume sliders in the mixer and the tracks section as mentioned in this post here (Transpose and volume settings don't seem to work)

@fkalmus Actually I had also requested a smooth transition for the controls as this app can: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrURNDxq6x8&t=1542s
But it looks like I need to live without that nice function :smiling_face_with_tear:

but you can grab a MIDI controller with 3-4 faders and adjust 3-4 different LAYER’s feed from the same MIDI input… (all global, or global + song based… shared, etc…)

Probably I could

Could you tell me how exactly you would do that?

What exactly? Prepare all together and send screenshot here where you stuck

  • Layers (you know where to add)
  • globals (wrote you above)
  • MIDI control (learn from main panel , or manually in Devices/Actions…)

MIDI control. How would I set these in order I could use one fader for controlling several layer audio volumes together?

Where did you stuck? Screenshot plz

Well, I don’t know: I think it’s not possible controlling several layer audio volume sliders with just one controller?
At least when I try to set the same controller in the actions menu to different volume sliders, VST Live won’t let me do this…
Anyway: I neither think that this is making sense. I don’t want to have to control the faders for smooth transitions myself. However, I was interested in your suggestion - but unfortunately it doesn’t look like it would be of any help to me

On the YouTube video, the guy was blending 3different sounds with 3 different FADERS, that is doable with VSTL (if you have such MIDI controller)
however what you mention:

Yes, it is also possible with VSTL within seconds:

That’s a thing: I seem to have found the next bug in VST Live:
When I tried it earlier to change the yellow marked values to controller 14, it didn’t work. VST Live only let me set other values than the Controller 14 value already set for the first slider. Now all of a sudden it works…

As far as I understand the Sunday Keys app the transition goes on its own as soon as you press the next snapshot button.
That’s exactly what I would like to have in VST Live too, so that when you switch to another duplicated part that has the audio volume set differently VST Live would make a smooth transition of the volume slider(s)…

It allows (if you tried to decrease Data1To field first that would be an obvious nonsense)
