C14 Export improvements

Hi all
My most desired feature requests for export are :

  • remember last export range setting for each project
  • do not automatically set the export range to everything that is in the project, or at least offer the option to enable/disable this behaviour (reason is I often leave extra parts in projects as notes that are not meant to be exported)
  • I usually use the marker track to highlight all parts that I want exported, I would like an option to make Cubase export the marker track area by default so I don’t have to open the dialog, then go back to highlight all markers then press P then back to the menu to export.
    Behaviour customisation.
    Thanks

I am not aware that such a functionality exists in Cubase. Therefore it might be hard to remove it.
Export range is either the locators, cycle markers, or events on the Arranger Track. I have never seen ā€œeverything in the projectā€.

You can select the cycle marker in the Export Audio Mixdown dialog with C14.0.20. There is no need to go back to the project. Therefore I don’t understand your request. What am I missing?

It is not an option and that is my issue. The behaviour problem is this:
I may have what I want to export on bars 10 to 100, have extra stuff say bars 120 to 150
Before I export my locators could be anywhere.
When I open the export dialog it will automatically select the export range to 10 to 150, ie everything.
In the export menu there needs to be options added.
The locators section does not work as intended, meaning if I set my selectors before opening export, they will be changed to everything.
The marker track section does not allow to export one file for the entire marker track.
It exports a separate file for each section… !

What I would like to see more from Steinberg is more customisable behaviours as we all have different workflows. Here every time I export an audio file I face this same annoyance. I’d like to be able to choose what Cubase does by default, here prepare export around marker track area.

Then your Cubase behaves different from other Cubases.
It might be one of the infamous ā€œpreference fileā€ issues.
Or you might have programmed a macro that does this and have forgotten about it?
With factory settings Cubase does not change the locators upon opening the Export dialog.

I tried setting Cubase to factory defaults and it still does that ,..
Weirdly enough when I set to factory defaults, apply then ok, then when I reopen the preferences menu it does not show written factory defauls in the box any more.
Don’t know if this is normal.
I definitely did not program a macro for this.

Could you please tell me more about this?
Thanks Johnny !

Sure, just replace ā€œ13ā€ with 14.

For Mac the location is here:

  • Go to ā€œYour Username/Library/Preferencesā€ and locate the folder which is named the same as your Cubase/Nuendo version.
  • Please note: Since Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), the user’s Library folder is hidden! Here is how to access it: In the menu bar of Mac OS X click on ā€œGoā€. While the menu is folded out holding down the [ alt ] key (options) will show the ā€œLibraryā€ entry.

Hmm… Not usual - I don’t recognise this behaviour at all…

For clarification:- so you’re saying if you deliberately set the Locators to bars 10 to 100 before opening the export window, as soon as you open it the Locator range in there now shows as being 10 to 150.? Then there’s definitely something odd going on. Only thing I can suggest is starting Cubase in ā€˜Safe Mode’ and trying again (use CTRL+SHIFT+ALT after clicking the Cubase icon. This will give you an option dialog popup of choices how you want Cubase to startup, for troubleshooting).

You just need to select the cycle marker 10 to 100 before exporting nothing else needed.

My bad I did use a macro with shortcut to export ! :face_with_crossed_out_eyes: I was dumb .. Sorry !!:upside_down_face:  @Johnny_Moneto
And thanks everyone who chimed in, I learnt a few things  @Puma0382 @diegoalejo15

Two feature requests still :

  • option to let Cubase remember last export section per project ?
  • option in the Markers section of the export menu to export just one file encompassing the entire marker region (would remove the need to select every marker each time)
Or if there is a key command to select all markers I can update my macro, but couldn’t find that command, it could be added to the list too :+1:
    Thanks !

 You know, I was really reluctant to even mention this as a possible cause but then I thought ā€œjust in caseā€.

Regarding your last suggestion: I always create one long cycle marker that spans the entire piece that I want to export. Usually on its own marker track. And if I know that I am not going to extend the length of the piece any further I will even hide this marker track in the project. For export it is still available, of course.

Indeed Johnny has been of great help to many, as have quite a few others, and that is why I love coming to visit this forum as a daily Cubase user.
