C14 Score Editor Clef Questions

Hi All,
started playing with the new score editor, and so far, super happy. Couple of questions:

  • It seems that changing the clef does not always change the notation. I works as expected for the bass, alto or tenor clefs, but for the treble 8va or 8vb clefs, no change happens. Presumably, that is a bug? Or am I missing something?
  • There are tantalizing tab clefs for 6 and 4 string instruments, but I can’t see a way how to actually get a tablature. I would LOVE to be able to edit and display in tablature. That would really make my day. Is there a way to do it? If not, what is the point of the tab clefs?

Thanks!

Clefs with octave indicators don’t change the pitch of notes by default. In Dorico, we have an option to enable this, but it’s not currently included in Cubase. It is something we could potentially add in future.

There’s no tablature support in the new Score Editor at the moment, but it’s planned, and will hopefully arrive in a future maintenance update for Cubase 14.

Thanks Daniel. Nice work with the score editor - really was hoping for something like this, since I was playing with Dorico a few months back. I rarely need scoring to actually print things, but I like to look at stuff I have on my tracks in notation at times while editing, especially when I want to look at multiple tracks at once. The key editor quickly becomes a mess in that case, because so many events tend to overlap  I have not tried enough yet to see how well this use case works in practice, but so far it is very promising.

In the editor scenario, I’d really like to have the transposing treble clefs transpose the notation, because it helps to keep things clean on a stave. But of course, I don’t know if this is a common desire. But my vote would definitively be to add the treble clef option…

And thanks for the answer on the tablature. This is REALLY something I am looking forward to. As a guitar player, I often find it much faster to enter tablature than entering scored notes or even events on a key editor…
