Caret Delete -

Please let me know what I am doing wrong. I am trying to delete the dotted quarter using the carat. When I press delete it removes the note selected.

Is the only way to do this to select on/off with Note Input off?

What is the purpose of moving the carat in Note Input mode if you aren’t able to edit that note? Not a complaint - just wondering what purpose that has if you can’t edit the note that you move to.
Shift+arrow selects more,

Thanks,

The carot is mostly for positioning so that you can input notes, although it lets you select with shift + arrows, it’s not its main purpose.

had to re -look at the example… Deselect the selected note and then position the caret after the note you want to delete, then hit delete. If you have a note selected, delete will remove that note, not the dotted quarter.

To deselect the selected note, click out of note entry and then click back in and position the caret.

Is the only way to do this going out of note input?

As @tmrolls wrote: position the caret at the first rhythmic position after the note (it doesn’t have to be at the end of the note) and press Delete, it should delete the note, no matter what is already selected.

I wasn’t putting the carat at the right point - I have to move it to the beginning of the next bar (which made me think I was going to delete a note from the next bar).

I find that I can move the caret to any rhythmic point after the note and it works. e.g. I had my rhythmic grid set to 16ths, I move the caret to the very next 16th after the dotted note, pressed Delete, and it was deleted.

Normally, when you enter a note, it remains selected, so if you want to delete it, then just press delete.

If you’re going to write something else over the dotted quarter, then you don’t need to delete it first.

I think this is the exact same confusion / misconception as this thread from last week.
