There is a thread from last year pertaining to this same question, but without any resolution. I’m using a slightly-modified “Jazz Standards” preset for my chord symbols, but would like the / that appears diagonally between the chord and its altered root to be slightly tighter to the chord.
I’m including a pic and not the project here simply because I don’t believe this to be a project-specific question, just a “how-to” question.
Reducing the size of the slash font has the effect of tightening this gap up a bit. Doricolib files need to be installed in your DefaultLibraryAdditions folder. In Windows this lives at Users\yournamehere\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Dorico 5\DefaultLibraryAdditions. I posted more detail about how this works, and how to modify the file to fit your font settings in this thread.
Fred, thank you so much - the chords look much better now.
Is there any line in the .doricolib file I could adjust to play with the “padding” around the / mark? As I click around the score in Engrave mode, the X offset isn’t perfectly consistent (sometimes -4.50, or -5.00, or -3.50) so there’s something intelligent happening in there. I guess I’m asking if there’s a way to control the “intelligence”?
It was a couple of years ago when I was messing around with that, but unfortunately I don’t think so. Feel free to modify the code to suit your fonts, but for some reason I think the yOffset value worked (positive values are down) but the xOffset didn’t. I had set the scale and offset to look good with my fonts, but you can certainly tweak that as needed if you find better results. It would be nice to have controls for this built into the interface in a future version.
