Changing a text field

How can I change where the text “6 Horns in F” is displayed on the first page of the score. The text was entered by someone else and wasn’t entered in the Project Info. I have attached a screenshot of it. I am using Dorico Elements 6

According to the docs you cannot edit page template sets in Elements but you can edit the page in Engrave Mode (which causes a page override).

Or if you don’t mind upload the project and describe where you want to move the text field and somebody with Dorico Pro will modify the page template set on your behalf.

I’d be happy to upload the project. How and where do I upload it? Will you do the modification?

In the editor click on Screenshot 2025-11-27 at 17.45.18 and select the file.

Yes, I could do the modification(s).

I am new to Dorico. I could not find Screenshot 2025-11-27 at 17.45.18in the Editor.

Also, how do I have the arrangers name on the individual parts?

I mean the icon/button in editor window while composing a post

But you uploaded the project successfully. What do you want to change?

Please delete the text “6 Horns in F”. And I’d like to have the arrangers name under the composers name on each individual part.

How did you find out the Elements doesn’t allow for the layout change?

I read the manual . Actually you can change the layout but you cannot edit the page template sets which is very useful for the parts.

Here is the edited project

Thank you very much. I will read the Elements Manual for other issues. How did you get the arrangers name on the individual parts? Is that only possible in Pro?

You’re welcome.

Yes, globally by editing the page template set it’s only possible in Pro. But as I said in Elements you could edit the first page of each part in Engrave Mode, but this is pretty tedious.

I see. Maybe I should have upgraded Pro from SE. I don’t mind I have another question. I just noticed that on the 2-6 parts, the 1st horn line is written above also. The previous writer set it up that way. Why? I never asked him to do that and I don’t want to deal with him again.

There are some Black Friday deals to upgrade to Dorico Pro extremely cheaply at the moment. Look for an upgrade from Elements to Pro at Steinberg Cyber Deals.

Thanks

Vadian is a very kind fellow Dorico user trying to help you out. Yes, in Elements your layout possibilities are very limited, so you either need a friendly Pro user to help you out - or to upgrade to the Pro version.

I removed the horn 1 lines in horn 2–6, I think this is even possible in Elements:.
In Setup Mode in the right zone select the layout (it becomes light blue) and then in the left zone check/uncheck the players you want.

Further I reduced slightly the page margins of the parts, 10 mm/0.4 inch top and bottom and 12.7 mm/ 0.5 inch left and right is sufficient.

Thank you very much for all your edits. It all looks great. I have been able to learn and edit some items myself.

Since you are knowledgeable about Dorico, if you don’t mind helping me with 3 more issues I have: 1. when in play mode, how do I switch from piano roll view to score view? 2. Why are the note during the playback short? Do I have to adjust the lengths of each pitch individually or is there a way to have the notes played as written? 3. How can I extend the range of instruments?

You can’t see the score when you’re in Play mode. But you can view the mixer in Write and Engrave modes, and the key editor in Write mode (in the lower panel).

It looks like you have the Note Performer playback template selected, but you’ve manually mapped things to Iconica Sketch instruments and have some kind of staccato patch applied. If you want the Iconica instruments, then go to Play > Playback Template, select the Auto template, and Apply and Close. If you want the Note Performer instruments, then select the Note Performer template and Apply and Close. Either one of those will reset your mappings and get the playback to sound as it should.

Each sample library comes with a certain range of pitches sampled, and there’s no way to go beyond that; it’s true that some of the default Dorico libraries don’t contain pitches that are playable by professionals. However, because Note Performer uses synthesis, it doesn’t have these restrictions, and in fact will happily play back notes that are physically impossible on the instrument!
