The new option to show chord diagram fingerings at start of flow does not work for me.
Is there an additional setting to adjust?
Hello,
Same problem for me.
I can’t make it work either (the tick box on Layout Options appears to do nothing).
@Lillie_Harris chord diagram fingering does not appear to have made it yet into theD4 manual for ordinary chord diagrams, let alone those at the start of a flow. Can you offer any clues?
I recommend that you refer to the Version History, updated this week for 4.0.20 and linked in Daniel’s pinned post in the forum.
I followed those instructions to the letter, and nothing happened! Fingering does appear on the diagrams in the part, but not at the start of the flow.
Works OK here!

Hi Daniel,
I downloaded your file, no fingerings at start of flow …
I opened your file and this is what I see…
No fingerings on either diagram (and yes, I’ve paid my sub to upgrade to D4!).
Looks exactly the same here.
I can get the fingerings to show on the chord diagram for the player but not on the diagram at start of flow when the settings in Layout Options > Chord Symbols and Diagrams > Chord Diagrams are set as follows:
Show fingerings in chord diagrams > Fingerings position: - At end of string (Inside dot works also)
Show chord diagrams used at start of flow - checked
Show fingerings in chord diagrams at start of flow - checked
Interestingly - @dspreadbury and this might be a bug - with Show chord diagrams used at start of flow checked, when I set Maximum number of chord diagrams per row to 0 and clicked Apply, Dorico crashed immediately. Every time I tried it, it crashed. It also happens in Dorico 3.5.12.
I’m also experiencing the same problem.
Sorry for the delay in coming back to this thread.
@StevenJones01, thanks for letting me know about the crash – I will make sure we add some protection against specifying zero as the maximum number of chord diagrams per row.
As yet I’m unable to reproduce the problem reported by others in this thread where activating Show fingerings in chord diagrams at start of flow does not work. Note that it is the option Show fingerings in chord diagrams at start of flow that has to be activated, and not the (similarly, but not identically named) option Show fingerings in chord diagrams at the top of the Chord Diagrams section.

Here’s one that fails.
I will look further into this.
I am using the trial version of Dorico 4 and was wondering if this issue was resolved. This is a huge selling point for me. I need to put the fingerings on the top diagrams for teaching purposes.
If I remember correctly, we discovered that there was one remaining bug in Dorico 4.0.30/31 that prevents these fingering numbers from appearing in the chord diagrams at the start of the flow. Sorry for the inconvenience! But this problem will definitely be fixed in the next (free) Dorico 4 update, which is coming soon.
Hi Daniel, and what about 3.5 has the bug has been fixed? Because I can’t group chord diagrams at the start of a flow either.
oh! And another issue (bug?) in 3.5 is I can’t get anything to respond in the Section of “Chord Diagrams” -nothing is working: Scale Factor, Distance between Rows…all that
Can you perhaps attach an example project that demonstrates the problem you’re having, @Wayjaz? Are you definitely talking about chord diagrams shown automatically at the start of the flow (which follow the options on the Chord Symbols and Diagrams page of Layout Options) or regular chord diagrams above the music as normal (which follow the options on the Chord Diagrams page of Engraving Options)?
Yes, that’s correct I am referring to Chord Diagrams (Start of a Flow) -turned on from the Layout Options Page. And for me I now see diagrams don’t appear with this option if there are any existing overrides. For instance, when creating lesson pages I usually put a logo-graphic in the right hand corner above the flow & title, if i remove the overrides, Start of flow Chord Diagrams appear to work fine.
Otherwise, in general to get Diagrams at the start of a Flow to show: I start by Show Chord Diagrams from the Setup Page displaying the measure chords then go to Layout Options Page turning on display above Start of flow option which displays both diagram options- then back to Setup Page to unselect No Chord Diagrams. Then I get (ONLY) diagrams above a Flow. Is there an easier way to do this?
And is there a way to edit chord diagrams once displayed above a Flow (Cmd-Shift-Q) ? Also, I find the Start of a Flow chord diagrams only seems to work for guitar diagrams and not Ukulele… when trying to display the Above a Flow option and diagrams over a measure I get Ukulele diagrams above measure chords BUT guitar diagrams for Start of Flow chords(?).
