So is these no solution or workaround to this? How is it POSSIBLE that this have been overlooked when the main target group are users with highly customized templates?
I will have to revert to N14 until this is resolved.
For anyone finding this thread, I got a response from customer support:
“This issue has already been reported and documented for consideration in a future major release. However, I do not expect it to be addressed within the current Nuendo 15 release cycle.”
For me personally it’s a breaking change for the template and workflow I’ve had for the past 14 years, and if I’m going to have to redo it all, I’d rather move to Reaper instead and do it properly.
Taking into consideration Steinberg’s business philosophy the past years of adding new half-done features to make great product videos, instead of taking care of the wall of bugs in the backlog and finalizing the pile of beta-stage features, means that I will now leave Steinberg after using Cubendo since version SX 1.0.
Still On N14 here. But reading this thread all the same. So in the mixer you have to toggle open the ‘non group type folder’ state in the left pane to show the normal folder tracks in the mixer, correct? (or have them already unfolded in the project window?)
If this is correct…another problem being as far as I can see ‘Group Folders’ and ‘normal folders’ appear exactly the same in the left hand pane making it confusing as to which ones you actually need to unfold to show them in the mixer.
This is kinda silly behaviour. There 100% should be an option to keep normal unfolded folder tracks viewable in the mixer! I can totally see how it can be useful at times to hide the normal folder tracks in the mixer but not at the expense of this.
This issue, and a couple of other bugs, has caused me to go back to version 14, and makes me regret my purchase of 15. I make my living using Nuendo and have since version 1. The work is time consuming- I’m not playing around! This kind of thing is so frustrating. This is not a feature! Honestly, I would pay more money just to have 15 be rock solid before I will pay for another version that runs the risk of destroying basic long-time workflows.
My dream Nuendo upgrade is a no-new-features version where they only fix bugs and fix ALL of them.
I know people say we “shouldn’t have to pay more just to have features working properly” but I’d be a very happy paying user on that day.
This is ridiculous. Steinberg making it sound like it’s a feature request but it’s an issue that appeared with a new version with a new feture i.e Group Folders (which are quite different from normal Folders in function and workflow). How can users be expected to upgrade when working stuff gets changed for the worse.
Now that I’ve had some coffee, I’m guessing that if they did this on purpose the thinking might have been that there’s no use in seeing folders that aren’t doing anything. A closed regular folder where you can only see the folder and not its tracks is useless, whereas a group-folder still passes audio and has inserts. At least that’s a difference that makes some amount of sense.
The usefulness of having closed regular folders visible is I guess that it’s telling the user that the folders exist and that there potentially are tracks in them.
I can sort of see their reasoning now though, and I guess the “workaround” is to just get used to having regular folders open at all times and then use the checkmarks to show/hide the tracks. Of course PLEs etc help if you’re working with templates.
Well, having a lot of folders with a lot of tracks in them, keeping them open all the time is a real pain to scroll.
The open-closing folder function in the tracklist was handy to keep the tracklist compact, the visibility check-mark made the tracks visible in the mixer.
The open-closing folder function now influences the visibility. The visibility checkmark makes no sense now.
Sure I found a new workflow I can deal with with PLE-Macros and restructuring projects. But opening old projects and staring at half-empty mixers seems off.
To me it´s pretty weird, that for years (decades?) the “old” workflow made sense and now Steinberg wants to convince us, that a workflow with an illogical visibility-checkmark behaviour is the way to go.
As I already said I moved on, it´s no big deal, but if Steinberg can do something about it I´m even more happy with N15.
Simple question, I’ve always used folders as a place to store tracks that were closely related ie. Guitars, etc. Closing a folder had nothing to do with track visibility…are you saying I can’t use folders as folders any more or I need to do something special to view tracks in the mixer that are in a closed folder??? I’m confused with this whole Group Track Folder nonsense…there are tracks and busses…folders are a storage thing.
Where’s the Folders on a mixer, I’ve got an old analog one and there’s no Folder. 
I’ve been using Nuendo 12 and just getting started with 15 so I don’t have any large projects yet…wondering if I should just stay on 12?
Hi, From reading this thread: In N15 Closed (folded) Folder will not show the contained tracks in the mixer. Folder Tracks have to be unfolded to show the contained tracks in the mixer.
Im still on N14 btw
Although this can indeed be helpful while tracking and editing where you need to focus on specific tracks, I find it could be problematic during the mixing stage where you want an organized Project window but need to see all your tracks in the mixer. (I am currently working on such a project with 150+ tracks.)
Perhaps we just need the option to show and open/close regular folders in the mixer. But ultimately (IMO) I don’t believe the folders being open or closed should be tied to track visibility. This conflates two different workflow approaches.
Why do we need folders in the mixer in the first place? Folders were always a way to tidy up large track counts so you didn’t need to see all the tracks in the track view but they are still available in the mixer…though more often than not a lot of those tracks in the folders are sent to busses 
Track visiblity can hide any tracks you don’t need to see but hinging mixer visibility on whether a folder in track view is open or closed is pure stupidity…how about a simple kill switch for the new group folder nonsense! For now I’ll use 15 for small projects and 12 for everything else
With all of that said Nuendo 15 does run very well on my machine!!
