Contour Shuttle Express Midi controller not detected in Cubase 10.5 ? win 11 ..
Throw us a bone here – can you give any information at all? What OS? What have you tried already? Did it work before and stop working? Does it work on a different computer? How is it connected? What do you expect should happen? Why do you think it’s a MIDI controller?
I dont think there is such product. It is a USB-HID device not a MIDI device. If you want your shuttle to send midi you need some extra software.
I have one of these. Cubase has no idea it exists. It basically sends keyboard commands. So in the shuttle control panel choose the version of Cubase that is the newest (I think it is quite old) and then modify it for your own use. You may also need to change key command shortcuts in Cubase to get it to do what you want. It really does depend on how you want to use it. Also note, like a keyboard (qwerty) it will only work on the active window unlike a midi controller. I suggest you read the manual fully to understand how the shuttle works.
Ap[ologies Guys , I am on win 11 , Cubase 10.5 . ( sorry for the diversion : for how long , ??? , Open ticket is pending , done all the required registration , only works with the now obsolute USB Dongle , had to bring it up here , as the mater is Status Quo. ).
well , yes it doesnt send midi signals , some where it says it requires Bhome Midi ?? , I wanted it work basically as a Transport / scrub controller .
this is the product.
so is there any thing similar i can buy ?? what do u guys use ?? thanks sm
Yes, for example the Presonus Faderport v2 (2018), but only because of a great MIDI Remote script written by some forum members on here. Getting that set up can be daunting at first, but you can ask on that thread. It might be a good time to see if you can pick up one, as Fender have taken over Presonus, so who knows what might happen, but be sure to get the “v2” one. There was an earlier version that will not work.
Others here will no doubt make other recommendations for a controller with a scroll wheel, and of course it will depend on your budget.
I used one of those in Cakewalk, Sonar and Studio One. But it never worked in Cubase. It sits on the shelf now.
What does it send then? Can key commands be programmed into it? In this case it would not need to get detected, you would simply need a software to assign the desired key commands to the buttons, the jog wheel and the shuttle. I am not sure how good Cubase 10.5’s key command support for those latter two is.
The manufacturer hinted in their FAQs that they provide such a software.
The Faderport v2 works perfectly in Cubase using the MIDI Remote script I linked to, but of course I forgot that you need a current version of Cubase to avail of MIDI Remote features.
To put this in context, I bought a Faderport v2 because that MIDI Remote script is so good. It almost seems like it makes the Faderport v2 into a totally new device.
You might check whether it might be less expensive to upgrade to Cubase 15 in order to use the Faderport v2 that you already have.
Yes. This and its brother (pro v2) have been with me for a long time. When the MIDI Remote got introduced I moved from such controllers to strict MIDI controllers.
@earthdesignz.inc the use case you describe should be done using dedicated shortcuts for the left/right turn of the “Dial” of this device. You have to setup the provided driver from their drivers section. When it’s complete, and after restarting your PC, you can open the “Contour Multimedia Controller Configurations” app and set up the keystrokes for this “Dial” turns.
When you open the app you’ll see something like this:
Go to the “Dial” tab:
Turn off the “Use for scrolling” option. This will bring you to the “Turn Left/Right” options.
By clicking “edit” for each direction, you can set it up to execute a shortcut.
Example of assigning the Ctrl+NumPad- to the left turn (this is the default shortcut for “Nudge cursor left”:
I would suggest beginning with such simple assignments. If in the future you find it necessary to add MIDI translations, then yes, you can use Bome MIDI Translator Pro for this. The idea is to again assign a shortcut to your device, but from inside BMT translate this shortcut to a MIDI message.
I did have a Faderport classic, but a couple of the buttons wore out, so i got rid of it and I got a Nektar Panorama CS12. It is great in Cubase 15 Pro.
I still use mine with Cubase. I had to modify the key commands a bit but works well. The screen you want it yo work on gas to gave focus. That can get really annoying if you for instance have just done something on the mixer and want it to do something on the arranger. But that’s how a keyboard works too.
Thanks
