I use CC dynamics in my expression maps instead of velocity. So, my written dynamics influence CC1, not velocity. Nonetheless, all my MIDI notes get a default velocity of 100 and I’d like to avoid that because my string library (Berlin Strings) will trigger a portamento legato on any note with that velocity.
This post (Default velocity on mouse input) indicates that MIDI notes have no velocity at all and should follow the dynamics written in the score. Since I’m using CCs in my Exp. Maps, why is Dorico setting note velocities to a default of 100? Can I change this and still use CCs for dynamics?

You can’t change the default velocity, I’m afraid, but you have a couple of options. One would be to set your expression map to use velocity as the secondary dynamic controller, which will make velocity follow CC1. The other would be to manually edit the velocities using the Velocity editor. You can use the histogram editor to rapidly edit all velocities for a given instrument (or independent voice).
Thank you for your suggestions, I’ll focus on those solutions
If you set the velocity as a secondary controller in expression maps, you can also give it a very narrow range, for example 64-65.
Giving different playback techiques different (narrow) velocity ranges can be a good way to control some VST libraries, like Cinematic Studio Strings.
