My Control Room settings are frequently erased and replaced by the default settings. It is probably due to a silent crash at the program quit. Sometimes, the selection screen is shown in the subsequent run, but the program often runs without any warning, unfortunately with the default settings of Control Room. I must rewrite the CR settings with my backup, which is annoying.
The file that contains the CR presets is stored here: %appdata%/steinberg/Cubase 14_64/Presets
Well, if you don’t use Cubase 14 then the number must be adjusted, of course.
The file is called: ControlRoomPresets.pxml
You should create your preferred settings once and then close Cubase. This will write the settings into the file. Afterwards make a copy of the file.
If you have the issue in the future again you can simply replace that file by your copy.
I know it. I have my backup file. But the frequent replacement of default settings by C14, probably due to a C14 crash during its quit, is annoying. I have to do that several times a day
Nope. In this case, the crash dump is not created or is zero size. The setting window in the subsequent start contains no dump for sending to Steinberg. Often it is not shown. I have observed that there is some correlation between the C14 quit and the immediate shutdown of W11. Now, I simply wait several minutes before shutting W11 down. But it is not 100% safe.
Same here since C13. I got so used to check the setup presets first once I have started Cubase that I don’t even notice anymore. No apparent trigger that causes this behaviour, no dmp file, nothing.
Many users report the exact same behaviour. For the time being I would just keep a link to the directory plus the backup file on the desktop and accept it (…with a silent tear in your eye - kidding).
What do you mean with several times a day, though? Does it happen in the middle of a session, too?? That would be on another level then.
No, I had several C14 crashes during work before the 14.0.10 version. Now, it is more or less OK. This happens during the shutdown of C14. I simply do not have my PC running the whole day. I also have the link to the directory. Maybe I will install some periodical auto-rewrite software that will do it automatically Once upon a W11 start may be sufficient.
I have this problem since C13. Very randomly all CRoom settings are deleted. I make backups whenever I change settings in the control room now. Have no idea, what´s the trigger.
After some time, I think that the problem was a short time between Cubase quit and the shutdown of Win11. Now, I am waiting some time (about 1 minute) and I have not seen that problem again.
Happening also to me in Win 11 and Nuendo 13. Sooo anoying, specially when my CR setting is quite complicated.
Even my input and output presets are also erased.
This is something Steinberg should take seriously. For a professional studio this is hell.
My advice since I suppose this issue will not be resolved any time soon: Go to
%APPDATA%\Steinberg\Nuendo13_64\presets
Copy the file ControlRoomPresets.pxml and save it on your desktop along with a link to that folder. If your CR presets have vanished into thin air simply replace the file that is now unrightfully residing in this folder.
That seems to be the easiest and quickest way as far as I’m concerned.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: I have just realized that Johnny already gave the exact same advice in a previous post in this thread
Thank you very much Reco29.
The problem is that I already did that and to my surprise, sometimes replacing the file works and sometimes dont.
Also, it happens that my input and output buses configuration in studio connections also get deleted for no reason! and I dont know where my presets for that are located, so I have to reconfigure everything. The 64 channels! it is so frustrating…
Anybody knows where the input/output presets are saved and located so I can make a copy of that also?
Thank you
I’ve had similar frustrations over the years but had a new twist recently. Cubase would load a control room setup that I haven’t used in quite some time. I even went so far as to just delete the ControlRoomPresets file in %appdata%/steinberg/Cubase 14_64/Presets and then start Cubase again. To my surprise the same incorrect control room settings loaded again.
I went on a hunt through my hard drive for other possible sources of this data being loaded and found another folder containing a ControlRoomPresets file in Program Files/Steinberg/Cubase 14/Presets. Removing this file caused Cubase to start with a defaulted control room. Upon rebuilding my control room, Cubase properly saved and loaded my presets on subsequent startups. An additional benefit is that the new ControlRoomPreset file that was created is much smaller than previous and Cubase boots and shuts down much more quickly.
This is awkward and I can only caution against editing or deleting files from the Cubase program folder. You run the risk of damaging the Cubase install.
Cubase does not store custom made presets in this folder. The files there are all factory settings (unless you have edited them by yourself, of course).
