Countdown to Nuendo 14 - Save 30% on Nuendo 13 + free update + Grace Period

The countdown continues! This is my compulsory check-in to the forum to see any news! No doubt N14 is receiving final polish over the coming days, marketing videos are being produced and approved… and @TimoWildenhain is reviewing the final copy for the announcement in 5… 4… 3… 2…

I for one will start fresh, and have (mostly) committed to rebuilding all configuration parameters from scratch, including some lessons-learned from many fine folk in this forum, yourself included. All new templates, all new presets, all new routing, all of it. I plan on going through the Preference settings one-by-one and thinking it all through, make notes, and am even going to rebuild all the projects for my new album.

Opportunity abounds my friends!!!

I thought I will see a teaser today hehe

My prediction is March 19th…

The posted video says “Live in 7 days, March 12”.

That’s dedication to a product right there…

Can’t wait to release this!
So I start counting down to the world premiere: -7

I predict this will be the best Nuendo release ever. Steinberg is running on all cylinders right now, folks. Nuendo 14 will be an insta-upgrade for me, based on my Cubase 14 experience so far.

And next year I’ll say the same thing with Nuendo 15, once Steinberg finally adds click-and-drag ripple editing, right @TimoWildenhain ???

(I have to bug him about it every once in a while… :smiling_face_with_halo: )

Ripple Editing is actually in fact on our table for evaluation. We’re not yet sure about it. It’s a very big deal to make this happen.

Wonderful to hear it’s still on the table. I recall you or someone else at Steinberg mentioned it a few years ago, but I’m thrilled you’re still evaluating it (or perhaps even secretly started developing it, shhhhhhh, I won’t tell anyone).

I’ll pretend you didn’t say that! :smiling_face_with_halo:

Yes, I think you or someone else explained it a bit in the past, and as a former programmer myself, I definitely understand it’s not simple, considering dependencies, scope of dealing with so many track types and object types, framework issues, testing, regressions, etc., etc… I get it… it’s a very big deal. BUT it’s also a deceptively transformational feature… a VERY big deal for some people, that if implemented correctly (and not half-a$$ like Presonus and others have done), it will have a profound impact on workflows… for a lot of use cases. Nuendo + click and drag ripple editing would be a holy grail kind of DAW combo for me, would significantly improve workflows for my dialog-heavy projects, sound design projects, scoring projects, and post production projects. Just for starters.

So I’m sitting here crossing my fingers for Nuendo 15 next year with click and drag ripple editing… but I’m also super excited for Nuendo 14 this month, of course, since you guys nailed some features I’ve been asking for over the years in Cubase 14. Again, it’s the best Cubase in years. So Nuendo 14 is going to be a big hit for sure.

But yes, a really good ripple editing feature in Cubase/Nuendo would be game changer for many users… including users who don’t realize how helpful it can be.

Cheers! And best of luck with the N14 launch! I will be ready to upgrade right away!

Hi, and for those who don’t know what the feature, “ripple editing” is…

yo nvr dd tl us…

Which, would those be?

Off the top of my head:

  • Event volume curves! THANK THE DAW GODS! Been hoping and asking for years… it’s been a long time coming, and they finally did it. I would have upgraded just for this one single feature. Easy.

  • New score editor from Dorico team – hoping and asking for this, and I knew they had been working on this, and it’s here! (v 1.0 at least) And it’s an excellent start! Yay! The future will surely bring more features and eventually good interoperability with Dorico… I am honestly thrilled they made it to this milestone. It’s a BIG deal and tons of work they invested.

  • Modulators! Finally! And they did a very nice job. Love this feature for sound design, creative madness, general music production, adding motion to anything, subtle to extreme… very happy with this. Bravo!

  • General workflow improvements like range selection/editing tools… nice improvements! There are several of these related quality of life things… happy to see them!

  • DAWproject file format compatibility! Been asking for this from the day this was announced from Bitwig and Presonus… and then Reaper can do this too… very happy Steinberg listened and added it!

There’s more, but those are the ones I could think of this second. Plus there were a couple I never asked for, but I appreciate. I wasn’t asking for the pattern sequencer, for example, but I’ve already found it really nice to have. Simple and effective when needed. Not overkill, but still nice to have. Thumbs up. I didn’t specifically ask for media bay improvements, but yeah man, I’m glad they did. Very useful.

Oh, and I’m thrilled with the ruler track improvements. Forgot to mention that one. Very simple, nothing fancy, but so useful to me, personally. Already came in handy. It’s the kind of feature I have been hoping for, and wondering why DAW developers haven’t done it before. And Steinberg did it. Most people will never care about it, but every DAW should be able to do it… and Steinberg obviously knows how helpful it can be for post.

If I open up a session, I’ll probably find 3-4 more goodies I’ve been asking and/or hoping for.

Cubase 14 is the best Cubase for me, personally, in years and years. It’s like they were reading from my personal feature request list. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: And hence why I’m so optimistic about Nuendo 14. What other goodies will N14 offer beyond the above? Can’t wait to find out. I am saying too much and sounding like a fanboy, but I assure you I’m not. I just happen to think Steinberg kicked butt with C14.

The only MAJOR thing I want/need, more than anything else for Cubendo, is click-and-drag ripple editing. If I got that, I’d literally start doing backflips in the studio (or at least attempt to do them, although it could be very dangerous to my health and I might damage some equipment…). We’ll save that one for Nuendo 15. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

About Ripple Edit
I think It is possible to streamline the workflow without breaking its dependency graph or compromising compatibility.

Sure Nuendo’s dependency graph can be complex, with tracks, effects, routing, and automation all interconnected. This creates a risk of breaking projects or losing compatibility with older sessions.

Currently, I use a series of key commands to accomplish the same tasks, but might need a more efficient way to chain them—perhaps through a macro or script and few floating buttons can streamline it further…

Fortunately, Nuendo’s macro system is quite robust, allowing multiple key commands to be bundled into a single trigger without altering the underlying structure.

YEARS ago?! LOL. Longest evaluation process ever. I admire your positivity though. Maybe my great great grandchildren will be able to enjoy this feature. :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

Yep, I agree it’s been a long time since I (and others) have been asking for true click-and-drag ripple editing, but it’s a long game with Steinberg! They do many other things right, and I’ve gotten a bunch of feature requests I’ve been asking for over the years, so I keep on being a customer.

I’ve also learned they make long-term plans for big ticket features like this… so it helps to keep reminding them. The perfect example is the new score editor, which was years in the planning, and now they have released version 1.0 of the new score editor, with a brand new codebase that will evolve into the next decade, cementing some of Steinberg’s strengths for composers. It sets Cubase/Nuendo a big step ahead compared to many other DAWs. Its close relation to Dorico is a big deal, puts Cubase/Nuendo in a very strong position for years for people who need such features. And it took years to develop. So they clearly have a long-term track at Steinberg, and it appears ripple editing has to be on that long-term track.

So yes, I am (trying to be) optimistic about click and drag ripple editing… I believe @TimoWildenhain and team realize the benefits of doing it the right way. The question is whether or not they can allocate the resources to make it happen when they also have to balance out a lot of requests from other people.

Now if I can only get in touch with Hans Zimmer and convince him to ask Steinberg to prioritize click and drag ripple editing, then it would show up in the next version of Cubendo!

Anyway, it never hurts to ask. I do it from time to time. And the only real alternative IMO with truly excellent click and drag ripple editing is Reaper. (And yes, I use Reaper specifically for that feature and a couple of other features.) Ironically, Steinberg’s own WaveLab has click and drag ripple editing in the montage, so they know what it looks and feels like. However, WaveLab’s montage complexity is orders of magnitude simpler than Cubendo’s myriad of track objects, so adding click and drag ripple editing to Cubase/Nuendo is vastly more complex.

I’ve asked for dozens of features over the years and Steinberg has delivered many of them. Obviously they didn’t deliver them because only I asked… but because many people asked for similar things, so when many people ask, they clearly are listening. So that’s why I keep asking from time to time instead of giving up. And again, the only true alternative (for me) that does ripple editing the right way is Reaper, and there’s no way I can switch to exclusively use Reaper, since it is deficient in too many other areas compared to Nuendo. So I have to use both… and keep asking.

Anyway, I didn’t mean to take things off topic, since we’re waiting for Nuendo 14, and I’m psyched about this release in particular!

Exact wording is…
