Today I crossgraded to Nuendo 13 from Cubase Pro 13.
I got Cubase Pro 13 by a crossgrade.
is it now possible for me to resell my Cubase pro 13 crossgrade license seen it is still available in the Steinberg download assistant?
I don’t know the rule offhand, but you should note that it’s not the Download Assistant that shows what is licensed, it’s the Activation Manager.
In the Download Assistant here it is still activated.
You will need to ask Steinberg support directly about that unless one of them happens to visit the forum and chimes in.
When you ‘crossgrade’ or ‘upgrade’ your whole license is based on you owning the previous product you used to upgrade/crossgrade too, and it really depends on the particular companies policy around it.
Granted if its something like Logic Pro or Ableton Live, Steinberg doesn’t really have much of a way to verify if you still own that license (and those may not even need to be retained), but when you do it from a Steinberg product to another, they may require you keep that previous license, since that is the sole reason you were eligible for your crossgrade or upgrade in the first place.
I’ve run into it before where I’ve upgraded to another product and wasn’t able to sell the previous product as that was my ‘eligibility’ and without it, I didn’t meet the requirements for the ‘upgrade license’ I got. It can get weird depending on who the manufacturer is. Think that was the even the case here when everyone got their free update to Cubase 12 and wanted to sell off their old USB dongles with the 11 license on it.
No, that is not correct. See the Activation Manager.
Somebody from Steinberg said no but than I found this so I re-asked Steinberg and asked it here because it’s confusing:
“The situation only changed once Steinberg Licensing was released. Crossgrading Cubase Pro 11 or earlier (i.e. an eLicenser licence for Cubase Pro) to Nuendo results in the loss of the Cubase licence. I crossgraded from Cubase Pro 11 to Nuendo 11, so I no longer have a Cubase licence. Crossgrading Cubase Pro 12 or later to Nuendo leaves the Cubase licence intact.”
