Where have they said that? Shocking decision if true. They sell me into c10 then 6 months later, during the mid point of a version, tell me i need a new os and essentially a new computer? Its almost on par with fxpansion selling me a half functioning version of geist 2 only to then make it win 10 only when they fix the bugs. A company i can never trust again.
If you want improvements and fixes then you update, if you want to sit on outdated software that’s your choice, not Steinbergs. Win 7 is 10 years old, time to move on and utilise newer frameworks. Debate has been done to death already, anyway.
Yeah look how keeping up to date worked out for mac users, i don’t care about remaining ‘current’. There is a reason most of this industry still shun W8 and 10 for Windows 7. We care more about reliabliity and performance. I couldn’t give a monkey’s if MS dropped support. I haven’t had updates on for years. The operating system is as good as it gets. Cubase 10 is working flawlessly on W7 and there’s no reason 10.5 shouldn’t. I have C10 and w10 on another machine and it’s performance is a joke in comparison. Have you seen how many people are reverting to 7 after trying Cubase on W10? It’s probably the worst decision Steinberg have made in the 20 years i’ve been with them.

When i rely on good workflow and performance to make a living and Steinberg make a decision that will affect that i’m not just going to put up or shut up. Not to mention they are now effectively forcing me to buy a new OS, and with it likely a new 5k machine as there is no chance in hell i would risk upgrading my main workstation to that garbage. As another user put it, it is essentially blackmail.

Steinberg are at least being transparent about this particular aspect of Cubase development. Windows 7 does not support newer technologies, it’s close to End Of Life as an OS. There’s literally nothing to complain about and calling it blackmail is just plain silly.
If what you have now works perfectly for you, then there’s no need to upgrade is there. If you want new stuff, then you will have to upgrade.
