Cubase 11 + M1 + OS11 Mac

I didn’t know this. Bought an AXR4, a new Mac Mini, and updated from 7.5. to 11. Nothing works. All windows are black, the e-licenser is weird and it can’t find the AXR4. No music, that’s for sure. Sad…

Use Cubase 10.5. It works well. The AXR4 will not work doe…

Happy to offer support and beta testing for Steiny,

OK, thanks! So I´ll have to wait for an update on the AXR4T…

Unfortunately yes. As for Cubase, install 10.5 version is working perfectly!!!

Will there be a Rosetta-ready version for Cubase 11 soon available at least? Every single other Major Daw works under Rosetta.

In Big Sur 11.0 Cubase 11 worked. It broked in 11.1. As Cubase 11 have graphical issues also on Intel Processors, let’s hope that the next update will fix them on all systems.

I’m loving my M1 MacBook Pro so far, but I hope anyone considering one of these new systems understands it will take 3-12 months for the majority of active developers to fully optimize their software. For those who need mission critical stability and compatibility right now, they’re not ready yet. Even so, I’ve had a surprising level of success across numerous DAWs and plugins at performance levels besting my 15" 2017 MacBook Pro, and it can only get better from here. Rosetta 2 is a significant improvement over Rosetta 1 in almost every way and almost pulls off the trick of being invisible to the user. Even though I’d rate my success rate at 95% so far, there are still wrinkles to iron out like the Cubase 11 issue. iLok, UAD and Native-Instruments are all working now though, which were initially broken at launch. I’m now able to load all of my Live, Reason and Logic projects, including the larger orchestral tracks. Best of all, it makes zero noise.

How many tracks does it run. How hard can that machine be pushed.

Oh… I know I should have checked in on this. I upgraded from my old FireWire system to a new mac and a AXR4. In other words equipment worth about $3400 that just wont work. Makes me feel a little stupid… I need a beer.

Well, thanks for the confirmations. I checked it too and 10.5 works. In certain places like Groove Agent and the Sampler Track you get some graphical glitches. Other than that I didn‘t run into any issues as for now. 3rd party plugins, elicenser (software version) and even the mouse driver (logitech options) works perfectly.
Still this device and it‘s setup is considered experimental by me. I expect having some unusual problems every now and then. My main workhorse will be an Intel Mac until the point is reached where Mac silicon can‘t be overlooked by anyone. Which will be for certain at one point in time because there will be only Apple silicon Macs be sold in the future.

here’s the thing: i understand companies like steinberg do not want to use resources to quickly jump on the M1 train, BUT: Cubase 11 has similar GUI Bugs in Big Sur on Intel macs, and since these are the reason it doesn’t run on M1 Macs, i reckon there must be an update for C11 soon anyway…which will hopefully enable it to run on M1’s Rosetta? Cubase 11 on Catalina worked like a charm, snappy gui etc. but it’s a hot mess on ma 2017 Intel Macbook with Big Sur and even worse on my M1 Macbook with Big sur…so, there HAS to be a Fix for the Graphic Bugs will hopefully resolve the M1 Rosetta Issue. C’mon, every other day, as already mentioned, runs on rosetta, Steinberg just messed up the GUI for 11 / Big Sur combo., at least be honest about it.

I want to get an M1 Mac, but I’m waiting until Cubase works on it (and the higher RAM models are released in a few months).

So Steinberg waiting until enough people are using M1 Mac’s seems a little illogical. Customers who want to buy an M1 to produce music using Cubase won’t buy one unless Cubase is guaranteed to work on it.

Considering Logic - and it seems Studio One - already work on the M1, Steinberg will only end up losing customers to the other DAW’s by ‘waiting’.

Most Pro’s System will take at least a year to have the whole setup M1 ready and in the meantime it is indeed the better alternative to have the DAW run in Rosetta and have all the Third Party Plugins run “natively” within the Rosetta Daw. This way you only translate the DAW rather than every single plugin you open, which has proven to be rather unstable on logic, reaper etc (just check youtube for videos). So…unless almost every major plugin you use is M1 supported, there is no benefit in running your daw in M1 mode, as translating the DAW is better than translating every single plugin. Most Logic users do that anyways and its working fine, and for now it 100% ensures compatibility within the daw.

This means that a full m1 Compatibility will take at least a year for every vendor to rewrite their Software and most are fine with running rosetta until then. Unfortunately Cubase 11 doesn’t even give you THIS option, so you are not only NOT running an M1 Version, you are running no version at all, which is a bummer, so i said it before and i’ll say it again:

Please Steinberg, fix whatever GUI Shananigans are going on with Big Sur and Cubase 11 and make sure same applies to Big Sur + M1 under Rosetta and at least give people a temporary way to enjoy their C11 they paid for. Most people are not even asking for a native M1 Version…take your time with that. Just fix the GUI Bugs and make it work on Big Sur + Intel and Big Sur + M1 + Rosetta…

PLEASE:

Logic Pro X and Studio One 5 both work great on my M1 chip. Steinberg can’t even launch properly.

It gets worse I’m afraid. Judging by Steinberg reply few posts above, they don’t even plan to do anything about- it will cost them too much money, time and effort…

well they have to at least fix their version 11 for big sur at least. people buying new macbooks cant use cubase 11…

Here is the official Steinberg statement regarding M1 Macs:

While many of our products are compatible with macOS Big Sur on Intel-based systems, please note that we cannot recommend using Apple Silicon-based systems for the time being until we have completed our tests or released updates to make our software and hardware compatible.

I am well aware of this 2 month old statement and visiting that page on daily basis…
Progress report for Apple Silicone says - testing… LoL
Progress report for Intel says - compatible
As I have mentioned in my previous post, judging by Steinberg stand on Apple M1, I don’t expect any updates of Cubase for that platform anytime soon.
Personally I have given up on Steinberg now and moved on to using Logic Pro, Live Suite and Reason.

This post is driving me crazy, as always, Apple does whatever they want and software companies are at they’re beckoned call. This seems to happen with every new Mac OS release so it must be particularly difficult when they introduce an entirely new hardware platform. I’m sure Mac M1s will be awesome eventually, but really, what do expect? If you can’t wait for Steinberg to catch up, and you have to have the latest and greatest, jump ship!

The point is, and i feel like no one is mentioning that:

C11 does not work without Graphical Issues on Big Sur, Intel or M1. So they HAVE to fix it eventually, as all people buying new macs will have Big Sur. Fix the Bugs for C11 on Big Sur and make it run on M1 under Rosetta, thats all we need for now
