Cubase 12 hangs on "initialising video player"

Last ditch troubleshooting.

I re-installed Elements 11, opened a project.

While it was open I started Artist 12 (both open at the same time).

It started no problem.

Closed it again and restarted no problem.

wth??

Same problem hanging when initialising video player.
Deleting the Cubase 12_64 folder did not resolve.
Brand new install of Cubase AI 12 on a new windows 11 machine.
OpenGL 4.6

Same issue here: got stuck on Video Player, tried removing videoengine.dll - got stuck on chord pads; tried removing the Cubase 12_64 folder, got stuck on VST Mixer.

So just out of interest, I did a fresh install, took everything out of the components folder, and added it back one-by-one - the culprit is baios.dll. Remove just that file (leaving videoengine.dll and Cubase 12_64 untouched) and everything scans fine - video player, chord pads, and VST Mixer - and Cubase finally launches… except you can’t add an audio interface. Cubase can see the MIDI ports on my interface though.

If I then put baios.dll back in, it stalls on the video player again.

Windows 10 Version 21H2, latest Nvidia drivers, interface is a Presonus Quantum 2626.

Hi
I have had the same problems . no matter what i do nothing worked
I am going to wait to see what the official cure is as all others have failed on me and i have had to re image my C drive a couple of times now as this problem also messed up Cubase 11
It is weird that cubase 11 runs perfectly and Cubase 12 is a non starter.
It is definitely a steinburg problem
What is that baios .ddl do or what is it meant for??
Sounds like a reverse spelling for bios to me .
I also had a word with a steinburg developer and he is on the case.
I will have another look tomorrow I really do not want to delve anymore as things go t*s up!!

I am also having this problem, with Cubase 12 Pro freezing on initialising the video engine. This is my first time with Cubase, I’m not a prior user. I did uninstall and reinstall, the program then opened once but has since reverted to freezing on launch.

Hi As soon as you start fiddling all hell breaks loose
I got in a couple of times by a fluke , but the next opening back to video player, even sometimes VST Mixer, Chord Pad, and a no licence screen
But every time you get going again it always goes back to the Video player.
I suggest to anyone , make sure you have a system image of your c drive when it was good and you can afford to have a mess up, but i want things to settle so i can get back to recording music. In all of this Cubase 11 is flawless to me but 12 is a b***H!!

the culprit araservice.dll

Hi
Why does it not happen on cubase 11 then??
If cubase 11 works without a flaw in the big sense the same should happen to it as well i would have thought. .
I do not use Melodyne anyway but get this horrid problem that will not go away.
I have reisigned myself to wait for the correct answer as fiddling with the computer leads to more misery. I just want to get on with music and my life.

Ok… I got it open once, so I set up and saved a new session before closing again. After this, Cubase Pro 12 opens consistently now, without missing a beat. (And looks fantastic!) Hoping it stays this way

I saw araservice.dll mentioned before, so I did check - ā€œARA servicesā€ is scanned before the video player that people are getting stuck on, it gets through it every time. Removing it makes no difference. Removing videoengine.dll gets through the Video Player hang up, but then it sticks on either Chord Pads or VST Mixer. ARA is fine for me at least.

Removing baios.dll is the only way I can get it to launch - it ā€œfixesā€ all the other stops (whereas videoengine.dll only gets me past Video Player, and the Cubase 12_64 folder only gets me past Chord Pads). But it seems like that’s responsible for actually connecting to an interface, so it’s useless. It suggests to me that maybe it’s a problem with Cubase not liking certain interfaces, but no one has been listing what they’re using so it’s hard to tell for certain.

Hi Rentokill!! lol

I think you are onto something here as i have had all of what you say , including that if you keep persisting you get a screen telling you, you have no licence. Reboot and all comes back to video player
What is the baios dll for ???
Is it that it was programmed wrong as it must have that dll when you start Cubase 11.
Cubase 11 works fine for me . i have a Gforce 1030 graphics card updated to the latest.

Try what I say.

Back up araservice.dll to desktop ,

then delete source directory araservice.dll

Run Cubase

force end cubase,

NEXT Run Cubase

reference picture Click OK

try again and again

then run normally Cubase

Hi All, I have had this problem since installing Cubase Pro 12 on my laptop. It runs fine on my off-line desktop pc. Using the laptop I have just discovered that, if I have no browser open it starts fine. I use Google Chrome browser. I tried using Ms Edge browser and Cubase opens fine but if I have the Chrome browser open Cubase fails everytime. I have only tried this a few times so can’t be absolutely certain this is a fix but it seems worth a try if you use Chrome. I would be interested to know how everyone else gets on. I will test more over the next few days and report any findings. Good luck everyone.

What do you mean by force end?
Is it meaning when it gets stuck on video player you go to task manager and remove it?
I have tried deleting twice from Task manager and run nomaly and it still gets stuck on Video player.
I am at my wits end with this upgrade.

I have gone to the 12_64 folder and deleted that .
Restarted and it was put back but still stuck on video Player

I did try it. Makes no difference.

Hi
Here is my Graphic card info and still stuck with no explanation
I had no idea what open GL meant but eventually opened by run dxdiag and then hit display

I just ran that dxdiag on my pc. At the bottom of each page I get ā€˜no problems found’.

I’m just using Cubase 12 without ever trying to import video now.
I had the same with Cubase 11, so I doubt if it will get resolved (for me).
Cubase 10 and earlier were fine, so something got screwed up in the transition.

The rest of Cubase 12 is great though.

I don’t blame Steinberg as much as I do the lack of standards throughout all industries.

Dear sirs,

I have the same issue, i would like to ask you if there are any updates fropm the team on this issue? And what can be the technical solution to this?

I have the same problem…
