Cubase 13 is great, but the look changed for the worse

Actaully that worked very well. Thank you!

I didn’t get quite what I wanted, but it is much better. Cheers…

Glad it helped. So much of the griping about new versions are the result of needing to know how things work. Whether it’s a new workflow, or just something users haven’t used yet.

Not griping it’s a legitimate issues for people with visual sensory disabilities. Show us “gripers” how to turn down the brightness and contrast of the white letters or change the colors of them far as that goes and I’m sure we will be quiet. Imagine that people with visual disabilities being called “gripers.”

Unfortunately there are some things that we can’t fix like the way C13’s Mixer GUI now jumbles the text in the scribble strips, fails to show latency values, slows down reading info that is visible (since everything is so undifferentiated relative to C12), and completely blurs my vision when looking at the fader caps.

Of the 200+ companies I’ve bought music software from, SB is at the very bottom of the progress scale. Each subsequent release of Cubase since version 7.5 has taken us a few steps forward but an equal (or greater!) number backwards.

I just don’t understand why they do these things. It’s like they hate their customers. I’m done with them!

Please don’t make this personal. I have not suggested anything outside the narrow scope of the meaning my previous message, and I wasn’t referring to you, @Eaygee.

For those with a visual sensory disability, it would probably be helpful to SB to know what specifically you need – and it would make more sense to post that in a new topic rather than in this crowded thread.

There’s no way to do so now, so start a topic about it, it looks like such a request would gain support from many users.

Sadly there is no Preference modifier for font size throughout the application.

At this point I’d be happy to just be able to scale up the Inspector and make all the controls on it taller. Everything is so squeezed down as if they want you to be able to fit more top to bottom. But I never had that issue so they fixed an issue that didn’t exist, and in turn created a very real issue.

I love C13, but it’s having a weird effect… (Drawing produced by Ai)

I’ve got answers to all “flat design haters”. Guys you’re wrong because (choose to your case):

  1. You use wrong brightness settings.
  2. You use wrong monitors
  3. Your video card drivers are outdated
  4. Your monitor is outdated
  5. Your video card is outdated
  6. You are outdated.

For those of you who’s dreaming about skins - they’ve started to change 10 years ago and the Preference window is still the same, so what skins or customized UI are you talking about?

Also there are many people who says “I like it” and others say “give it a try”. So Cubase team is OK.

But if they want to be consecutive they should rename Cubase into Quadrase because Cube is a 3D and now it contradicts the internal content.

In the best case the team will show some changes in a year or two letting you know that they don’t fix their mistakes but introduce even more better design.
In the worst case we’ll live with this … forever because the coming generation of “music producers” which is growing up with such stuff like Studio One (which UI doesn’t look so horrible any more after 02.11.2023) and has no idea about real gear, style, aesthetics, arts… will gladly pay for this “flat design”. (“flat” also means fool, stupid, idiot, goof, mutt. ).

“Flatness” is not the problem.

The problem is that the new “refreshed” mixer is much more difficult to navigate due to the lack of differentiation among sections.

For example:

C12: ABC DEF GHI JKL
C13: ABCDEFGHIJKL

I’ve loaded projects into C12 and C13, compared screenshots of the two mixer views side-by-side, and the latter is markedly worse across the board.

C12’s mixer was great right out of the box. I only had to make a few small tweaks to get what I wanted. C13, in contrast, has not yet produced a usable mixer even after several hours of intensive adjusting of all the relevant settings.

C13’s mixer GUI is a big step backwards. Full stop.

I find it very disheartening that Steinberg is not addressing or saying anything about the issues with Cubase 13 especially how it is effecting people with Visual disabilities. It’s kind of showing me that they could care less about Us.

Please. There is no need to post the same messages in multiple different topics.

@Eaygee, please take the suggestion from our PM about starting a topic.

Give SB reps time to reflect and provide answers.

Forgive me if this has been said already, but many of the problems people are experiencing seem to occur when you display a large number of tracks in the Mixer. When you display a smaller number, I’ve noticed that things don’t look as bad.

Thus the problem seems to be one of ‘scaling’ rather than "styling’.

Perhaps if some of the borders around objects are thinned a bit, the Mixer may look better for some folks.

I don’t mean to detract from your thoughts, but the phrase is “could NOT care less” as in no care left – “they” don’t have any care.

They do care ,they just need a kick up the backside :+1: :ok_hand:

Having observed the reactions to this post over the past few days, one might assume that the majority are not in favor of the new look. However, the perspective on the Cubase subreddit paints a different picture.

We can only hope that the Cubase team will consider adding more customization options to satisfy everyone’s unique preferences.
