Cubase 13 is great, but the look changed for the worse

Please forgive me if what I say may be a little off the point of this discussion.

The DAW software that I admired when I was a student was Cubase 4. The bright blue GUI featured in the pamphlet was out of my league.
Now that I’m an adult, I was finally able to buy Cubase, and Cubase’s dark side color tone was the default.
So, I went back in my memory and adjusted the settings to the limit to bring back the Cubase 4 design as much as possible. It is this!

Mr. Steinberg, if possible, please support saving partial theme presets so that we can change not only the overall setting preset, but only the visual theme color.

At the same time, please support the circle of fifths notation for chord tracks as well as the circle of fourths notation that jazz and popular musicians prefer.

I like that scheme. While I could turn to the light background in the picture (which I like, AND I understand is not everybody’s cup of tea, actually most flat-out hate it), the problem is that I have a mixconsole open all the time right next screen which is sooooo dark that it gouges my eyes out, in contrast.

So I’ve temporarily settled for a general dark blue, and see how it goes, eventually, hopefully.

Oh my, it seems that such GUI in cu 13 is more of a better match with Cubase 4 / 5 color scheme.
I am not kidding, it is really softer to my eyes than the original one.

It’s strange for me to say this as someone who uses bright settings, but I would like to mention one element that you may not be aware of.

In Cubase 13, if you brighten the color settings on the project screen beyond a certain level, the white icons will be reversed to black. (like this image)

If you make good use of this, you may be able to escape from the unwelcome white and dazzling letters.

Yes, exactly. That’s what I observed once I got hands on Cu 13 and then tried to adjust the scheme.

I agree Sebastian, this is my current interface, I’m OK with mute earth colors, however, I prefer the so-called ‘dark’ interfaces line Blender & DaVinci Resolve have.

I always make everything dark/colorful, so the new GUI is great for me. And I use 3 different monitors of different sizes, so again, it works great for me. It does look a little flat, but I honestly couldn’t care less. I’m one of those weirdos who wants to see everything and have nothing hidden, so this new setup works great for me. But I could see why it would irritate the crap out of others.

I’m not objecting to the fact that it’s flat, I honestly don’t care… I just wish there weren’t unnecessary glare bars!

I quite like the tones i have , once you get to grips with setting the background colours you can achieve quite a bit , but … you know what’s coming , it’s those pesky f(*&&^& CaP’s  :joy:

Looks like a Scoop attempt aimed at the Presonus Studio One Cross over Crowd.

Shhh the Steinberg design team might think your being serious :grimacing:

Ack - Putting aside the aesthetics of the UI (which fwiw I think looks ugly and unrefined compared to C12) Cubase 13 just really hurts my eyes to work with. I use this program day in day out for hours at a time and I just cannot put up with this discomfort so don’t think I’ll be using this version. I guess I just have to hope and pray for a big turnaround in CB14 but for the first time in a couple of decades (I started on Atari, moved through SX etc) I feel really saddened by what my DAW of choice has become.

Agreed. The GUI in 12 looked much better for me. And no it’s not getting used to, it was much easier on the eyes. Maybe it looks better on 4k monitors?

What is ‘Insert Recording’? And it looks like it is permanently there.

Certainly, the design of Studio One seems clearer and better for long-term handling

As you say, the buttons appear to be slightly engraved

Retrospective recording.

Someone posted this image of the C13 mixer on the VI-Control forum. Has anyone been able to achieve this look? If so, what settings did you use? Cheers…

Set everything to that color in all applicable places.
