Cubase 13 is great, but the look changed for the worse

Well, to call it vomit is a little excessive. This is a real vomit of an interface:

Cubase Pro 13’s GUI might be a bit sloppy and not well thought out, but at least it’s readable enough to work with it, and the visual elements are not what I would call “vomit”.

disagree, I love the new look. Cleaner, better contrast, better overall.

Hmmm high track count - try staring at that mixer window for hours at a time, you’ll get lost. There’s too much trying to get your attention. The way the insert slots are highlighted now is a nightmare, everything blends together, there’s nothing to focus on. It’s like someone threw up skittles all over my screen… meh. Glad you’re liking it. Maybe with an update they’ll give us more customization options. Until then I have to stay on 12.

For those of us with poor vision, the higher contrast is a blessing.

Just musing, since about half the users loathe the 13 GUI, and half like it, it’s clear that it is impossible to address this issue to everybody’s satisfaction. Wouldn’t the solution be, Cubase devs, to provide the ability for the user to customise most aspects of the GUI, within reason? Fonts, and font colours, especially. I am aware there are subtle spacing issues, but I feel confident these could be worked out. Better than alienating a large proportion of the user base, as appears to have happened.

Yep this one could be a nightmare for Greg even thou it’s nothing to do with him , lets hope maturity can prevail

For most people, like me, the new look seemed too busy.
Yes, there are small problems with contrast, and a lot of text.

But after working for a while in 13, you will not want to return to the interface of 12.
Give it a chance.

Maybe need to adjust program’s interface to take into account the new changes

please repaint the color of the menus and bar of the inactive window. it is impossible to work with these contrasts. I have 3 monitors, and one of them contains two mixers, all this white is eye-catching, after an hour of work I got a headache… please Steinberg!!!

Absolutely True, I got the C13 yesterday and was unfortunately disappointed by the first look !!!
Especially when Zooming in the Mixer view, when the Inserts are tooooo Small, and Sends are too Big !!! and not efficient in viewing all the parameters in a DARK FLAT BORDERLESS View. I hope they fix all of these UI disruptions

I am a long time professional Cubase user. I have always purchased the update on day 1. I have always placed trust, not always well placed, in Steinberg. But I really spend many hours a day in the studio and a clean and functional interface is really important if not fundamental to work well. When I saw this GUI I was amazed for the worst. No, no! For the first time in decades I won’t be upgrading to 13. This interface is just too flat and stupidly designed for me.

100%!!! The bright white and bold combined with a stock looking font makes it look cheap and hurts my eyes trying to work.

Ya the flat look was started about 10 years ago. Cubase is on the tail end of that trend and the execution is awful

So disappointed. I can’t even work in this for 10 minutes, I need to go back to Cubase 12 until the GUI is fixed. Font is too bright, shouldnt be white, sizing is not asthetic, font looks cheap etc. I agree with pretty much every negative thing I have read in this thread. At least add these parts to the interface options in preferences so we can play with them ourselves. Im sorry to be so negative but this blows my mind that professionals made this and the decision makers actually approved this to be released to the public.

I completely agree with the majority here. The GUI has really taken a turn for the worse. I spent the weekend doing back-to-back sessions, and I have never been this exhausted. It is downright uncomfortable to work on. I certainly hope they will make this new look optional.

I’m also very disappointed with the GUI changes, it feels cheap and clunky and fonts are too bright and hurt the eyes. Please give us users the possibility to go back to the old design which was perfectly fine. I’m back at C12.

I used to work in Local Government as a web designer. At the time we had stringent rules as to what we had to do to comply with visual impairment guidelines. It seemed to me unnecessary and an inconvenience that simply prevented me from doing my creative ‘thing’.

20 years on, now wearing specs and sitting in front of Cubase for at least 3-4 hours every day and I can finally appreciate why those guidelines were in place. After the C12 debacle I was planning on waiting C13 out until a couple of maintenance releases, but from what I’ve read here I may not take C13 up at all.

For me I want my DAW to just do its job with minimal interference in the creative process. Let the plugin designers do their thing with thir ‘flash-bang’ designs and I can choose whether to use them or not, but please let the engine room get on with doing what it is supposed to do without any more distractions.

So I presume the Steinberg Devs haven’t grasped the concept of ‘skins’ ?

The new functions great, the look terrible. the brightness causes me with visual issues to not be able to use the program. So it’s not about getting used to it.

The humor in that OMG :joy:

Fully agree, the look is much worse. Also what I don´t understand is why the plugins including the new compressor are not skaleable. any other plugin I can drag and enlarge , not the cubase ones. Sad.
Some cool new features but I already regret having bought the update immediatly.

Ultra-high contrast is terrible to work with and induces migranes… This should be an accessability mode instead for individuals that actually need it, not the default.
Im not going to purchase this. Even 12 had contrast issues but they could be mostly resolved in settings.
