Well, apparently they already had Cubase 14 Pro ready for release for some time, since it’s out that fast.
Installs and start on OSX Monterey 12.7.6 on intel even if is not a supported OS version.
OMG this is the BEST cubase so far!!
They can’t offer grace periods for people during the September sale period as it’s intent is to cover those who’ve paid full price for a product that has been shortly replaced.
Hi Matthias,
I’m presuming I should get the upgrade to 14.
How do we get the upgrade?
I bought 13pro on 21st September but have not had time to download / activate it yet. (I’m sure your records will show this).
I was in the middle of a long Cubase project in 12Pro and couldn’t afford the learning curve time.
Please let me know the steps to follow to get the upgrade as I now have time to spend on getting familiar with the new version.
Regards,
Robin (loyal Cubase user since Cubase SX)
Are you saying that it was impossible to have bought Cubase 13 Pro at a discount (September sale) and then wait with activating it AFTER 9th of October to get a free 14 update?
It is not a month, it is 4 weeks.
What is different is the release schedule, it has basically been halved (as has prices) compared to previous years, along with a doubling of features and fixes, as well as a continuous improvement program that never stops.
This came about when Yamaha became involved so I’m not going to complain, especially when I can choose which platform I can work on be it Windows (x86), Mac (ARM) and soon to be Windows on ARM
No, i’m saying it would be an incredibly stupid business decision for Steinberg to offer discounted products and then to give away new products for free to those same buyers.
You have one offer or the other. The only grey area for me is the period between 25th Sept and 9th October, but I guess that’s to allow for a period of activations from the sale period? Anyone paying full price during that period I’d like to think that Steinberg will help out behind the scenes as a polite gesture.
If you haven’t noticed, the audio market is not in a great state right now and companies have their own bills and staff to pay.
As I see it, the update cost for Cubase is one of the best out there, so instead of worrying about what freebies you can get perhaps best to ask yourself if the product (C13) you purchased is suitable for your needs, and if it isn’t why did you purchase it in the first place?
Secondly, are the new features in C14 worth the update fee? If not then either wait for those to go on sale and see if the price is worth it,. or don’t update at all. It’s quite simple.
Since Matthias might already be out of office: If you haven’t entered your Donwload Access Code anywhere so far you can enter it now and should immediately get the Cubase Pro 14 license.
If you get Cubase Pro 13 instead, go to your MySteinberg account in a browser and check the Voucher section. It might take a few hours between entering the code and the voucher arriving.
More than likely.
Looking at the feature list, there are so many improvements, it’s not just a whole numbered version change is a whole new software program!
I just paid them $99 in September for an upgrade, and now it’s $99 in November, a month and a half later.
So yes, I am VERY f’ing salty. I didn’t buy whole ass Cubase in September, so your argument does not apply to people like me that shelled out $100 for an upgrade and are now being asked for another $100 a month and a half later. I didn’t buy Cubase 13, I bought an upgrade
It’s a trial, not a demo since all features are available for 60 days and no one is forcing anyone to activate the product at any one time.
In addition, with previous version compatibility there is no reason why anyone should be left out in the cold. It’s modern technology and the licensing system is still new.
Maybe things will change after eLc is shut down but if there comes a time where there is no such thing as a Grace Period, I for one will be more than happy because that means I won’t have to wait it out on an older version.
You’re right. I was overwhelmed by emotions. Excuse me. But the month is incomplete. October 9 - November 6.
Absolutely, couldn’t agree more, it’ll definitely cost. Is it needed? What was wrong with Cubase 13 specifically? and 12. and 11… etc. What essential tools were missing and what issues were users experiencing in terms of performance that warrant continued year on year tinkering and development and paid for updates?
Congrats to the whole Steinberg team! Bravo!
First Cubase and Nuendo on ARM64! That was a WOW moment!
Then Cubase 14! You guys are on fire!
Upgrading shortly, I love the new features. Looks like at least four of the features are on my personal wish-list – so this is an easy decision!
Now for true click-and-drag ripple editing for Cubase 15! You can do it!
No performance changes noted here. My current project is 17GB, same as 13.0.50. Nice with a dropout meter if works. I get the red process overload but no dropouts counted.
You’re not being asked for another $100 though, you’ve purchased C13 and you can continue to use C13.
If I paid £495 for C13 last year, and £83 for the update today, shouldn’t I be more salty for spending over 5x the amount you have?
If you don’t think $99 are worth it for the additional features then that’s your choice. You can buy next year when it’ll be around half that price in May and use a 60 day trial leading up to that if you’re so desperate for it, it’s not going anywhere.
I can see no sense in why Steinberg would have a grace period that includes a sale period, the people moaning today certainly wouldn’t if it were their company and staff to pay.
You’re absolutely right; it’s indeed a trial, not just a demo, since all features are available for 60 days. However, my main point still stands
That said, I wouldn’t put Steinberg in the same category as Adobe. Steinberg’s pricing feels much fairer by comparison.
I agree - that’s partly why this bothers me so much. I had switched to Studio One and came back in Sept due to the sale. Felt good especially with Studio One 7 now changing their pricing strategy. Have always respected Steinberg and the lengthy versions etc. Now this…
Not to forget that there was high incentive for updating since if you have an older than 12?11? version you will NOT be able to upgrade from the USB in 2025.
Sorry but this just feels like Sonar/Studio One vs what I know as Cubase
They new 14 was coming out and had the sale exactly before the cutoff.
