Cubase 14 available now

this was part of my reasoning. I told myself to wait, surely another sale before 2025. And now this happened.

Do you have any source for that? Is there not a upgrade path if your account have the old version registered?

don’t be obtuse. the point is that same $99 could have gone to 14 instead of 13, and Steinberg knows it. Ableton did not pull bullshit like this with the release of Live 12. Instead, they came out and just told people that if they upgrade to Live 11 they’d get 12 when it came out. They were open, transparent, honest, and up front.

What Steinberg has done is shady and sketchy and imo paints them in a shitty way. I came back to the company after a good while and just feel burned by it.

I think the problem is that the update process takes the license from the dongle and into the Steinberg licensing system to validate the process.

If the eLicenser system no longer exists, how do they verify the license and whether it’s been already updated or not without then having to maintain a secondary database?

I think if people wait, there will be specials next year and incentives for V14, once Nuendo is released because it would make sense to do that prior to eLc being confined to the dustbin of history.

“After the eLicenser service ends, upgrading your eLicenser-based product to Steinberg Licensing will no longer be possible. For example, users of Cubase 11 (or earlier versions) will need to purchase a full version to update to the latest version.”

It is up to Steinberg do decide if it OK or not. When the dongle system is gong it does not matter for the dongle if is updated or not. It is the account that is make a update valid and invalidate the old one in the account.

It still can go to into C14, if you didn’t buy C13 and only owned C12 today the update cost would be $200. So, You haven’t lost anything at all.

You’re trying to use a grace period designed to protect those who have purchased at full price in October to benefit you from a purchase made in September when there were sales on.

At least think it through from a business perspective. Would I be pissed off? Yes, at myself and my bad luck probable - but that’s just how these are i’m afraid.

You need to get back on track of appreciating C13 and what it can do for you rather than feeling bitter about things.

oops. They I should maybe have updated my backup dongle instead.

But the company that ran the store went belly up didn’t they? If the eLicenser servers no longer exist they have no way of querying the encrypted activation/license data.

The only way they could possibly have this covered is by cloning all that data into another system, paying for that to be managed and employing people to deal with it.

That seems quite significant to me just incase a few people come in 5 years late. Could be wrong though.

Well. I do see that it’s $99 for 13 owners and $200 for 12 owners. It seems I jumped to conclusions, since before I remembered most Pro to Pro upgrades were all the Pro versions even as far back as 5 or 6. I’ve made a mistake.

I can’t see anyone caring once the eLc servers are shut down, simply because software used in music and audio must be up to date with their underlying OS counterparts.

Just look at how the MacOS ecosystem is constantly evolving. If you can’t afford to use Mac, then use Windows but in future no one will need to choose with ARM.

Hi,
no groove quantize possible in Pattern sequencer, only swing. Steinberg, what do you think this sequencer is for, if not grooving drums? Also basic operations like copy paste etc all not possible
Pattern Sequencer is a big hoax, the worst implementation I have ever seen. What a joke.

Just updated to cubase 14 and allready theres a problem loading some effect plugins in to my project made in c13. on channels some plugins dont work and on others the same plugin does. In the c13 the project loads with all the plugins on the mixer And all vst2 plugins are dead too.

Does Cubase 14 support VST2 plug-ins?

VST 2 is not officially supported. VST 2 plug-ins may be loaded (excluding on Native Apple Silicon) when the VST 2 plug-in scanner is enabled in the VST Plug-in Manager. However, Steinberg does not provide support for any issues related to VST 2.

So…about that Grace period. When I bought and also activated C13 Pro on 23rd September (C12 Elements => C13 Pro, not a particullary cheap upgrade) and the grace period’s limit is 8th October…I’m out of luck right?
Does those 2 weeks really matter that much?

Thanks - but no support for OSX 12 Monterey? Just not supported or won’t install/run?

Most of us knew it was coming. It happens once a year, it’s not that hard to work out

Just playing around with it now. Really nice upgrade. The drum machine and drum pattern editor is worth the upgrade alone. Modulators are awesome as well. Thanks Steinberg.

I’d expect Ableton have much larger sales numbers and their products are higher priced.

Would you prefer a company that has lower prices overall or who offer longer grace periods is the question?

You’ll never see an update for Ableton Suite for the $50-60 mark that Cubase Pro updates go on offer for. Different business models, look at what Presonus are doing.

I really like Steinberg purely because if I can’t afford an update I can wait until it hits that incredibly affordable bracket. But you have to stay within the last update to keep in that price bracket of course.
