Cubase 14 Bug: Changing meter colour causes crash

Whenever I try to change the meter colours in Cubase 14, the program crashes and closes. This happens repeatedly with any project, even a new blank project.

Can anyone confirm this? Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Which meter exactly do you try to change, please?

Could you please attach the *.dmp/ips file(s)?

Mac: macOS Console utility > Crash Reports (or ~user/Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports).
Win: %userprofile%/Documents/Steinberg/Crash Dumps

Cubase 14.0.5 64bit2024.11.16 15.54.25.635.dmp (1.5 MB)

Preferences, Metering, Appearance. It only happens in Cubase 14. Not Cubase 13 or Nuendo 13 or earlier versions. All other aspects of Cubase 14 are stable

Hi,

I expect, it’s the “+3dB Digital (Channel Meter)”, the default one, right?

Yes. That’s right. Has anyone else reported this?

Hi,
Reported to Steinberg. Thank you.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I can live with the blue meter colours for now

Hi,

You change the value(s) by using the Mouse Scroll-Wheel, right? Does it mean, you are changing the position of the area borders?

Yes. I just tried it again using the main digital meter in the right zone. As soon as I try to change colours or the border (in dB) where the colours change, it crashes

Can confirm, but only if I use the scroll wheel on the color slider. If I just drag with the mouse, it works.

Hi fese, you are right. Well spotted. Dragging in the colour pallette or on the dB borders works fine. As soon a I try to scroll with the mouse wheel, it crashes

Hi,

Yes, the DMP file mentioned the scroll wheel explicitly. That’s why I asked.

Thank you for confirmation.

Just to also chime in similar/related.

On windows 11 21H2
I cant even change the scale or colors at all. I dont get a crash, but the changes seem ignored. The gui will show everything visually on how it should look in the preference menu. When I hit apply or okay it just stays the same in the meters.

–Edit–
Got it to change, but nothing works unless you are changing the colors on the default +3dB Digital (Channel Meter) scale. Everything in that drop down for scales is ignored and wont work. Seems like its been a long time coming. This cant be how it’s intended to work? https://forums.steinberg.net/t/how-to-change-scale-on-the-meters-they-seem-locked-to-3db-digital-scale/691215

Anyway somethings not right there.

Confirmed here too. Crashes every time.

As far as I’m aware, the +3dB scale is the only one that applies to the channel meters. All the other scales are applicable to the master or control room outs.

Also

If this wasn’t a typo then you’re running on an unsupported version of Windows 11.

Yep, but the configuration dialog just doesn’t make it very obvious…
