As you all may know Steinberg has completely revamped the score edit to The Dorico style editing.
There are things I like about it and others that need fixing.
- The integration with Cubase 14 chord track works now and the whole score editing seems more stable.
- Layouts are easier to understand.
Things I do not like or maybe I don’t know how to do it…
- Chord symbols do not have any choices on how they are written. For instance a C dim always shows as C-(b5), D-+7 as Dm(maj7). It would be nice to have more symbol choices. There’s many others.
- No enharmonic shift on chord symbols
- Bars per stave. You can set one generic bars per stave for the entire score. You can turn it off and let adjust it for you. But, It would be better if you could select how man bars you want on each staff and be able to change it. You can make a neater chart where a new section can start at the beginning of a staff.
- There are no Section markers (Sect. A, B, C etc.)
- I miss that you can’t hide stem or change notes to rhythm markings other than changing note heads
- Working with text is very difficult. It always locks to beat or bar. You can resize and move it up and down a little but it is very time consuming. It would be better if you could drop and drag text wherever you want it.
I don’t know why they changed the look of the Control Room panel. Looks cheezy.
Other than that I am liking Cubasae 14.

Hello @Anderoid
Regarding chord symbols, see here for some info (and more about score editor) from Steinberg staff…
Cubase 14. New score editor lacks important features of the old editor - Cubase - Steinberg Forums

In Page View, select the first note in the bar that you want to start on a new system and do Score > System Break .
If you have a marker track set to linear timebase then these appear as markers in the score. We don’t currently have a mechanism to show these as song section markers.
You can set a voice to appear as slashes:

Thanks Paul…I am still learning the new score edit and still trying to find ways to do the things I was able to do with the previous score edit. The work arounds are different but I will be working them and hopefully newer versions will be improving.
Hi All,
will dare to add one thing. In C13 in Score Editor was a neat function to explode the midi part with chords to separate mono lines. Now it is missing. Anyone has an idea where it might be?
And no, it is not Desolve Part function.

I am also looking for that function. Even tried creating a macro in Logical Editor. It created the tracks/lanes, but did not bring the different chords with it. All the lanes were blank.

*Is there any way to change the size of the chords fonts and incidentals?
*Would love to know a way to add song title and page numbers in smaller font on pages other the the first page. I see page number on first page only. Subsequent pages are not number even though it is selected in the layout menu.
*Is there a way to hide note stems for slashes n a single staff chart?
Are there plans to fix any of these issues?
figured out a similar way, made a macro that had to be run several times - basically the number of the notes in the chord and each time you would have to select the extracted part. Somehow a workaround that works for me.
Select Lowest note and move DRK.xml (3.2 KB)
XML for the macro attached.
Maybe this has been answered before…I seem to remember it was possible to make the notes quantized in the Score without actually quantize them in the performance (ie for keeping the performance human but to having a clean score). Can this be done?
This score program now is terrible. Can’t put chord symbols on individual parts without a “chord track” . How do you stop the chord track from playing chords along with your track. Markers to score no longer functions. Guess I have to load my songs in Cubase 13 to score… what a complete waste of time.

I actually think it is definitely a massive improvement and a step toward full Dorico Integration. I am sure it will receive some good fine tuning. In any case, I think the score editor should be focused on be able to compose in real time using the score, with a decent basic engraving that then can be brought into DORICO. The fact that it uses the same system is a massive upgrade for users like me who use and love Dorico. I am more curious on how to clean up the score without having to quantize the piano roll, so I can work on a decent looking score

This is what Display Quantize (DQ) is for. The default settings should work well for most cases, but you can change the default for each track in Score > Instrument Settings. If the score is mostly right but there are a few areas that need cleaning up then you can use Display Quantize override events. The DQ toolbar on the toolbar can be used to add them. Insert one with the new settings at the start of the region and then add a ‘reset’ event at the end to go back to the default DQ settings.
In the next update there is an improved workflow for this: just select a range of notes that you want to adjust and select the DQ parameters and it will automatically create the event and the reset event for that region.

Yes, I remember that function in the previous score editor. Found it works great. I am also trying to force a note in a piano part on the upper stave- is there any what to do that?
Thanks!
Hi folks,
I’m (still) not a Cubase user. It’s an excellent idea to bring some of Dorico into Cubase. I’ve downloaded version 14 and it’s really, really interesting, so much so that I’m seriously thinking about buying Cubase. BUT I can’t do many things from Dorico in Cubase, especially copy and paste music from one instrument to another. This is extremely useful when you want to do orchestration. The keyboard shortcuts I know don’t work and I haven’t figured out how to do it. I couldn’t find anything about it in the manual. This is an important point that could jeopardize my decision to purchase this cubase.
Chord symbols in the score always synchronise with the chord track now. However, you can define exactly which instruments should display them. In Layout Settings, there is a setting to define whether chords show above the top stave, or above specific instruments. Each instrument setting then allows you to define if they should show scores. Not sure if that’s exactly what you mean though.
You can mute it.
We intend to improve integration of markers in future, along with the ability to create rehearsal marks.
That option remains available. A Cubase 14 license also allows to run Cubase 13.
I would encourage you to take another look. Please continue to provide feedback, curious to hear how you get on.

Score menu, Cross Staff. Move or cross to staff above/below should do what you need.
Copy/paste in Cubase works based on the project cursor on the active track. This is different to how Dorico works, but is closer to the Key Editor.
You can change the active track in the track list of the visibility panel on the left.
Thank’s Stefan.
In fact that’s what I do but think it’s not as easy than in Dorcio.
Is there a way to have sone layouts with all chord symbols and other parts or tracks with partial chord symbols?
You can choose which instruments show chord symbols for each layout separately, but you can’t choose which specific chord symbols are shown. Can you show an example of what you’re trying to do?
