If you are considering Win11, I suggest you look into Win11 IoT Enterprise LTSC version.

You may need to add language packs and Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One and drivers, but no AI or other bloated stuff included..

Been running it over year and very happy with it

is what it said after trying your suggestion. I have no idea what any of it means lol

It should have said somewhere probably before that if it found missing or corrupt files or not.

Anyway, check this link out if you’re interested in looking into analyzing the output log file: Analyze log file entries that SFC.exe generates - Windows Client | Microsoft Learn

Now we can confirm that there shouldn’t be any missing or corrupt Windows system files causing issues on your machine.

Was the bit before

When was the last time you cleaned your temps?

Close as many apps as you can, including in the Task Tray. From a Run command (type Run in the Search bar)

Type: temp

Hit Enter

Delete everything. It’s all trash. Any prompts saying file is in use, select the Skip option. Check the box for ‘do this to all…’

After that, open Run again.

Type: %temp%

Hit Enter

Same as before. Delete it all. If it’s been a while (or never) don’t be surprised is it’s dozens of GBs of data

It looks like you pasted in the command twice and it didn’t run properly ?

Ooops! tried again.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

says i need administrator permission to delete this file…

Sorry dude this is all brand new to me.

Managed to delete the files though Yay! One folder in “TEMP” says i need permission from

“Trustedinstaller” so i cant delete it.

All good. Just skip it. The idea is to get the clog out of the pipes A few hairs won’t hurt

The DISM online repair or the Windows repair plus any critical motherboard and processor updates should give her one last chance to shine. Not sure if it’ll help the Cubase issue, but will help the PC

Huuummm, I am still using the full version of Kontakt 6 and Kontakt 8 Player. Haven’t noticed crashes with Cubase 14.0.32.

Am I just the luckiest guy on earth ??

Probably  lol

That’s scary

Post deleted.

It really isn’t. The vast majority of us are using Kontakt regularly without problems.

What’s going on with @AdamMassacre’s machine is unclear but it is not the norm by any means.

No you are the Norm.

I too have used kontakt for years without any problems its only recently the problems have started.

That reassures me

Hey Adam!

I just had a similar situation in which Cubase 15 repeatedly froze immediately upon opening and I had to shut it down by ending task in the task manager. This happened about five times in a row before I figured out what was going on and fixed it. This happened on a project with one midi track and no inserts. Totally barebones.

Here’s the deal. I noticed while I was in the task manager that Cubase was using 1-2% CPU, but there was another task above that using over 10% CPU. It turned out to be a service that windows starts periodically that checks for compatibility. I can’t remember the full name but I know the word compatible was in there. I queried MS CoPilot AI as to whether this service could cause freezing problems in Cubase and the answer was yes. So I had AI walk me through disabling it, which is doesn’t involve deleting anything. It is a matter of changing Windows settings. Unfortunately, they are quite obscure and if AI hadn’t been telling me what to change I would never have found them. The first three were in the scheduling area. There are probably around 8 total. This is a non critical function and it is not risky to disable. It is just another annoying Windows function that isn’t necessary.

After completing the disable process I rebooted and everything has been fine since.

I wish I had used Grok3 or chatGPT because the steps would be in the history and I could just copy and paste it here. Unfortunately, I used Microsoft CoPilot and so there isn’t any history. Anyway, this is something you might want to pursue. AI tells me that even if the computer doesn’t freeze this service often causes dropouts during recording and wreaks havoc.
