Cubase activation manager

For the 5 last days straight Cubase has reported back that there was a problem with my license but I can continue to use my product. After that my Activation Manager opens and it tells me to restart my computer if I want to log in.

So, my Cubase 13 has been acting strange lately - let’s call it moody - with random crashes on loading plugins mostly, only for the plugin to work perfectly on the next try.

Is there something going on with with Steinberg servers? is this copy protection related or should I look into other things?

I haven’t really changed anything on my computer other than to update my plugins and the cumulative Windows 11 update.

Hi,

The Windows updates could change something.

Also try to have a look to the antivirus and firewall to make sure, the communication with the Steinberg servers is not restricted.

it popped up again. It actually says it is hanging eLicenser? I haven’t had my dongle connected for months. Would that be firewall as best bet to fix it? or should I just try to roll back the Windows updates?

I noticed just about everything on my computer wants me to refresh passwords and renew login. I guess something must have been done in the background that I wasn’t aware of.

This looks like you are trying to use a product that still relies on the eLicenser. What happens if you connect the USB dongle, does this show up as well?

The eLicenser as well as the Steinberg Licensing do not connect to the Internet, unless you want to activate a product.

So there is something going on outside of Cubase. What applications are asking for password resets? Microsoft?

I am not sure what could be trying to access it. Maybe it is the VST Connect Pro? I am not trying to use it, but I was regularly getting an error message on Cubase startup “POS” which I think most people from the VST Connect forum think was from the old version of VST Connect (but I am 100% sure I don’t have the old one on my system) as I had a fresh Cubase install after VST Connect Pro was ported over to the new system.
I guess that is why I was confused too about it saying “elicsenser” since I don’t use that for a long time, only have the elicsenser software installed as Steinberg force installs it still every time you run SDA.

I think I’ll just uninstall the elicsenser software for now and see if that makes it go away.

You just said the software is installed automatically by Steinberg and now you say you want to uninstall it. That doesn’t make sense, just keep it and ignore it, it is not the reason for your problem and it will not solve it.

Hi @glennloopez , uninstalling the eLicenser Control Center will help temporarily regarding the error message you see in the Activation Manager but as you said it will be reinstalled next time you open the SDA. The eLicenser error message also doesn’t explain your Cubase 13 being moody.
It’s a bit weird that you see this error without the eLicenser attached (do you have any soft eLicenser licenses)?
To find out why the eLicenser software is accessed, you could go into the Steinberg Activation Manager, open the menu and click on “Create Diagnostic Report” and send the zip file to me via PM. I might see whats happening there, maybe some installed VST sounds you don’t have a license for.

If you don’t need any licenses from your eLicenser, you can use the workaround I described here in another thread to get rid of the eLicenser error message in the Activation Manager: Cubase 13 - "An eLicenser problem occured" from SAM - #8 by SKnapp
