Cubase UI Should Look Like a Studio — Not a Minimal DAW

I’m all for getting into specifics, for me it is menus and some windows - too narrow/hidden text/doesn’t auto-resize based on contents, momentary pop-up vs fixed pop-up/browser, single selection when multi-selection would be better, resize memory, position memory, lack of search filter, etc.

If I could have one of my UI/UX requests implemented, it would be the plugin preset menu becoming a pop-out browser:
IMPROVE PRESETS + MENUS - static pop-out browser instead of drop-down, save/replace, more - Cubase - Steinberg Forums

It’s a simple thing that would vastly improve users sound-design and creativity efficiency imo.

An example of Menu Single Selection vs Multi-Selection:
MediaBay: Set Up Results Column: PLEASE(!) get rid of this drop down menu + Presets - Cubase - Steinberg Forums

MIDI CC Lane Preset Menu one being overall lacking in all protocols:

  • no search filter
  • no folders
  • no mouse wheel support
  • have to slow click scroll
  • is an area repeatedly accessed/needed by users
  • should be a always-on-top popup window with list editing/managing features
  • should be able to be accessed via right zone for quick switching
  • should have a quick search command/function where user command executes a pop-up window/context box ready and cued for user to type in what preset they need with search results filtering closest match.
  • Mapped shortcuts 1-16 should be a separate entity in a manager/editor so that they don’t have to be fixed to the first 16 slots.

UI/menu protocol design - example: Pre/Post Commands Menu in PLE - Cubase - Steinberg Forums

In my opinion, if there should be a GUI focus in the next iterations - it should be on Menu UI/UX/Protocols… and things like:
Set Track Height Limits per Track Type in preferences, as well as, individual track height lock - Cubase - Steinberg Forums
