Apologies if this is something simple. I have used Cubase for thirty years and some projects contain Xphraze instrument tracks. Xphraze won’t work anymore (because nothing is ever compatible forever) and so I get an irritating error message every time I open projects containing an Xphraze instrument track. I have tried and tried to delete the track but I cannot. There is no delete track option in the contextual menu. Is there some hidden magical way of deleting these tracks?
All tracks can be deleted. There might be some corruption within the file.
Try opening an empty project, then open the file you want to delete the tracks from.
When asked ‘Activate Project?’ say no. Go to the deactivated session and delete the tracks you would like to get rid of. Then, activate the session and save.
I hope this helps.
Are you sure there is no XPhraze loaded in the VST Rack?
Is it possible to change the instrument to None, or some other VSTi?
The track isn’t Locked? I tried for a day, once, trying to delete a Locked track.
Is XPhraze still installed?
Do as Johnny Moneto says, check your Rack!
Two types of Instruments in Cubase rack:
- Track instruments - Can be deleted by contextual option “Remove selected track”
- Rack instruments - Can be removed by selecting “No instrument” by right clicking the instrument in the rack, thereafter you can select and remove the coresponding tracks in the track list.
I’ll try all these ideas soon. Thanks for the suggestions
Bauer and Googly-Shakespeare’s ideas worked. I changed the instrument to “no instrument” and the warning has gone.
Xphraze won’t even install on the computer. The computer is 1 year old and as cutting edge as possible (to avoid future replacement!)
Your help is much appreciated. Thanks to everyone
Buer!
Haha, a vowel too much and it’s a completely different word ![]()
And no one in norway has the surname Bauer; if your origin is Norway. Quite old and quite common name here.
Nomen est omen ![]()

I’m a bit picky here, I know, but…Ich bin keine Bauer. ![]()
