Digital cliping, using groove agent 5 in Cubase 11

The first played notes from Groove Agent just sounds a digital clip when played the first time on a project. I use it in Cubase 11 and mixing in Cubase not Groove Agent. And it only sounds the first a play a project for the day. AND Always when I’m rendering it. I have a workaound, I play every drumnnote i use once before projects starts, then cut it away, but… BUT… I need to have it fixed, and it’s urgent have to finnish projects. I use the Vinatage Kit on Groove agent 5.0.40 and Cubase 11.0.41. I have a I9 9900 and Windows 10 and a Steinberg UR242 soundcard! Please Help!

Hi,

I don’t experience this.

Is the first played note at the 1.0.0.0 Bars+Beats position by any chance?

I’t’s not on every project. But some more demanding projects. With many channels and heavily produced. At the moment I have ASIO at 512samples. (yamaha/steinberg usb asio 2.0.4) and Asio Guard on, but it doesn’t seem to change anything runs just as well at 256 samples and no Asio guard but the problem persist. And I always start a project at bar 9.

Hi,

Do you hear this also on the Export > Audio Mixdown file (WAV in the best case), please?

It only happens the first time I play it, after I open a song affected by this. But every time I export it, and that’s the problem. I export to 48/24 .wav.

Hi,

Sorry, do I understand you right, it is in the export?

Do you export in realtime or offline, please?

Yes, always in export, sometimes also during playback, but not always. And I always export in offline.

Hi,

Interesting, I wouldn’t expect so. Could you try to export in real time, please?

Can you see a peak on the meters, once this happens while playback? Can you see the peak on the source Instrument track or on the output? Do you use any dynamic plug-in on the track or on the output channel?

There’s a reaction on the graph to the sound it makes, not the proper snare, tom or hi-hat, which seem to be affected on this specific project. I also have a project where every sound from groove agent clips. I only use cubase channels strip fx.s on the sounds. Eq, Tube comp, tube sat. (and in that order) Same on the drum bus, no external plug-ins. But on the master Bus I Use Eq, Tube Compressor, Tape Saturator and as post plug-ins Waves -Vitamin and Ultramaximizer. But the sound seem to be affected already on ex. Snare top And Snare Bottom channels. so it seem to be more like a load problem, like the sound won’t load or buffer properly before it is played once. Since if i play the affected drumnotes before the sound is played for the first time, it will play properly, even if it it is muted while the “pre-sound” is played… And I tried to render it realtime, snare, hh and tom A still affected on this project. Same result as offline export.

Hi,

Just for the test, could you try with the Dry mix, please?

The Snare is still affected and clips, but the hi-hat and tom stopped clipping when dry, all strip/insert and bus fx off. One thing i came to think off, it’s far fetched, but all projects that are affected by this problem is made and recorded on Cubase 9.5 and an older version of Groove Agent, I don’t remember which version, but the one at the time equal to 9.5.

Screenshot of groove agent settings.

Some additional information that might be relevant. The clip sound sounds exactly like when you edit a audio curve midways. But it won’t sound like half a snare o half an hihat, It just clips, and the clip sound is the same, if it’s hihat, tom or snare. but affected by production.

Please Help! Thank You!

Hi,

Is it the same, if you add new Instrument track, which is completely dry?

Sorry, I’m not Groove Agent expert. I would recommend to post this to the Groove Agent thread.

I Have to try. And I tried to post at the Groove Agent Forum too, but some moderator deleted it… Which, really pi…ed me off… I’ve been a Cubase user since Atari ST and Cubase 3.0, and i’m beein’ treated as a spammer…Please… I Need Help! Your software Is broken! And this problem is taking me too much time, and causing me stress.

Well, it did not have the problem when i didn’t export the mixer, but after I exported the mixer the problem was there again… Now with the first snare that clipped And the Crash A, It seem to change which note it clips.

Hi,

I understand your pain.

Please, try it with an empty project, one dry Instrument track.

Could you please share the project? If you can reproduce it in the empty project (one-track-only), it would be the best, if not, could you share your current project, please?

Btw, could you please test your system by using Could you test your system by using LatencyMon utility?

It doesnt seem to affect small projects. But I can try. I just experience them when I’m almost done, and in the final stages of a mix on quite large projects. How can i share my project to you?

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES

The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 280.20
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 4.616338

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 252.10
Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 1.942237

REPORTED ISRs

Interrupt service routines are routines installed by the OS and device drivers that execute in response to a hardware interrupt signal.

REPORTED DPCs

DPC routines are part of the interrupt servicing dispatch mechanism and disable the possibility for a process to utilize the CPU while it is interrupted until the DPC has finished execution.

REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS

Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count: nvidia share.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults 4175
Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process: 2399
