Dorico 3 Pro don't Work - Failed to send GetInfo command

Under extensive use (or corrosion) USB ports can eventually wear out and become unreliable.

Sorry I’m not agree with you, the problems begun after the Update to catalina. You could not blame to extensive use or corrosion, I got exactly the same error messages. But at the moment it’s gone.

Some cheap types of connectors only have a specified life of 100 plugin and remove cycles. They were never designed for regular repeated use.

Of course if you plug a USB keyboard or mouse into one of those cheap connectors and then leave it plugged in for months or years, you will never reach 100 cycles before the computer is obsolete!

Is there any solution for that problem? Problems begun with Catalina. Alls products (Cubase, Dorico, eLic are in the newest version installed)
Cubase 10.5 works fine (but only once, after restart there are a lot of eLic-probs (I have to reboot the Mac).
Dorico 3 starts only, when the eLic-window is open, but not in the pro-mode.
I have to grant some privileges for Dorico. As I know, one have to restart the software the start with the right access-privileges.
I have started Dorico some times after rebooting the Mac.

Changing the usb-port helps. Hope, it’s now stable …

Same problem here:
16`MacBookPro on Catalina.
Works fine (mostly), but on launch of Dorico 3 : Failed to send Getinfo Command
Steinberg usb dongle is blinking. Directly connected via original Apple USB adapter (no hub).
On same error message comes up multiple times until Dorico launches.
Splash screen Dorico3 comes up with multiple Failed to send error messages
I load up my project.
Dorico error message: Software version wrong for this many players.
I go to the about screen: Its Dorico Pro3 version 3.0.10.1051

Repeat: same
Repeat: same

I HAVE to get this work done today!!!

I am quite angry about this. It took me an hour to get Dorico Pro 3 to work. Restarting / unplugging / plugging / maintenance on Elicenser / relicensing (I hope I did not damage something then) / restarting / about to call Steinberg telephone support
5 minutes before office hours in Hamburg so I just tried launching D again for the 11th time … and it worked!
WTF??
This is not exactly Pro…!

Welcome to the forum, Jochen 11. I’m sorry you’ve had such problems with the eLicenser. Are you using the newer, shorter USB eLicenser or the older one? My colleagues in support say that on newer machines it’s important to have the newer one (around 3.5cm in length rather than 5cm).

Hi Daniel, thank you for answering. I am very new to Dorico. Bought it a few days ago (and in the spirit of … (put in your favourite insult) jumped into a project with deadlines…
Anyway, yes. I got a very short dongle (read that in context please).
What I don’t really understand: In the eLicenser my license is connected to my computer. A"soft e license.
So … do I need to have the usb licenser with me all the time?
And regarding this morning’s problem: I am afraid of switching off my MacBook. Leaving it on (don’t get much sleep anyway…)

You do need to have the USB-eLicenser connected at all times that you want to run Dorico, yes. If you unplug the USB-eLicenser while Dorico is running, Dorico will crash, so please don’t do that!

Many MANY different error messages this morning. Various restarts. USB key tried in ALL available ports. Time wasted. Mood … not good.

Then … it works again.

I’m afraid your pictures did not attach…

Yep. Sorry. Basically the non sense error messages… VST Audio engine 2.0 complaining about no registration … eLicenser no registration … Dorico Pro 3 no registration … usb Kommunication Problem: please use another USB port (did that. … all of them) … and my favourite: Dorico LE 3 has made the following mistake: ??? (yes. 3 Question marks … and Dorico LE 3 … … … I bought Pro 3. from Frank Heckel)

This is new for me. I am running a very stable system - did not have a crash for month … To the point of me forgetting to save my work until I switch off the Mac. … well, to be fair: This is my old Mojave system. Now I’m on Catalina, so that may be the problem.

(BTW: I can make Dorico crash reliably by clicking the first clef in a full score.)
(And another thing … not a crash … a lot of times Dorico moves to seemingly random places in the score with me doing a copy and paste … so I have to search for where I was. )

Other than that: A joy to work with. Doing a 25 minute score with lots of parts… Lots of things are extremely time and brain consuming in OTHER programs. Here in D they are … suddenly just right.

The crash you have experienced with clicking on a clef in Setup mode is already fixed ahead of our next update.

I am having a bit of a brain fry with string flageolets…
Doing the actual pitch and a wierd notehead …

As a last resort I could always talk to the musicians…

Hi!

I´ve been running into this issue too too often. Today I launched Dorico pro 3, everything went well. Cubase 10 pro did not open, it had an issue. Shut Dorico and Cubase will run. Great, it did work again. Usually I have managed to get both open if I opened first Cubase and then Dorico. Now that I have Cubase running Dorico won´t open. It gives me this “Failed to send GetInfo” message. This feels desperate.

Now that even I shut Cubase the issue is going on with Dorico…

Running on Mac High Sierra, short dongle

  • Simo

And again Cubase crash…

Where is my Tascam 4 track and paper and pencil…?

Sorry to hear you’re having problems with running Dorico and Cubase at the same time. Can you also please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report from inside Dorico to create a diagnostic zip file on your desktop, and attach that here too?

Same issue here for me… with GetInfo time out.

Dorico LE 3 latest release issues with MBP 16" - in Apple’s own USB-C to USB converter and via CalDigit Thunderbolt Dock.

E-licenser has no issues reading the dongle or performing maintenance on the dongle.

So there is a timing issue somewhere in Dorico vs the dongles. Yes mine is the old dongle but guys - this is software - and should just work even if dongle is “slow” and machine is fast. This is 100% a SOFTWARE issue - NOT a hardware issue.

If Steinberg thinks a new dongle will sort it - then Steinberg should really do a recall on old dongles and replace them with working dongles. USB is USB… It is not like we have not paid for the software AND the dongle. The dongle is there to prevent piracy and does not bring me any benefit.

Sorry I’m a bit taken aback about Steinbergs attitude to this problem so I’m very grumpy.

(I’m an EE who do commercial electronics development)

best regards
