Dorico 6.1 - Pedal lines in existing projects have been moved

In Dorico 6.1 all pedal signs in existing projects have been moved and cannot be moved vertically. Can anyone confirm this? The new option “Align pedal lines across width of system” is not activated.

There are changes to pedal line positioning in Dorico 6.1, yes, as described in the Dorico 6.1 Version History PDF. However, you should find that you can move them vertically in the usual way in Engrave mode, though when the option to align them across the width of the system (which will not be enabled in existing projects) you may find that adjusting the vertical position of one pedal line on the system unexpectedly moves one elsewhere (which we are looking into).

As usual, it’s preferable for you to attach an example so that we can take a look and see what’s going on.

I attach an example. If you open the Dorico 6.0.22 file in 6.1, does it look like the attached PDF?

The only problem I can see here is with the pedal line in bar 17, which is not having its horizontal offset applied. Thanks for letting me know about this – I will take a look as soon as I can.

This is what it looks like when I open the 6.022 file with 6.1. All pedal markings are shifted upwards and cannot be moved vertically. To continue working, I’ve gone back to Dorico 6.022, where everything is normal. Thanks for looking into this.

Just to add my 2 Cents: The “p” dynamic in bar 11 has also moved and an accidental is new in bar 20.

I’ll note that I am having the same problem since updating. My pedal markings are lined up (even without the option checked) and I can not move pedal markings vertically. When moved, the Y offset shows the amount changed but the markings don’t move. I have moved them manually in Engrave Mode by clicking and dragging them but they “snap” back to their original place.

Sharp observation, but it doesn’t affect the problem described. Back in Dorico 6.0.22, I changed a few minor things on the page, such as the “p” dynamic and the accidental in bar 20 you mentioned. To demonstrate the changes to the pedal markings, I then opened this version on my laptop with Dorico 6.1.

Ah, ok.
My thought process was this: If not only the pedal markings go up but also the dynamic, maybe it’s some general setting regarding vertical distances that cause the change instead of something that only has to do with the pedal markings.

I am having the same issue with all of my pedal lines moving, sometimes changing the staff vertical position as well.

@Juerg_Loeffler @danielracercomposer @hammerman I assume you’re seeing this issue across all projects? Or is it only in specific cases? I’m reluctant to update until it’s resolved.

All - though I haven’t checked too many, just solo piano pieces.

I just checked several pieces: The issue is across all projects, also chamber music with piano.

Also seeing it in new projects that are created in 6.1.

As far as I can remember, Dorico has always avoided new features interfering with existing scores. Here, too, the new “Alignment across the system” feature is disabled for existing projects, but Dorico will “nevertheless resolve groups of overlapping pedal lines within the system and position them together.” (Version History, page 13). Although there are no overlapping pedal lines in my projects, the pedal markings are still moved upwards for some reason and can no longer be moved vertically. The latter also applies to new projects where I cannot move the pedal markings vertically.

Same issue here! I am having a problem since updating Dorico 6.1.

My pedal markings are lined up (even without the option checked) and I can not move pedal markings vertically. When moved, the Y offset shows the amount changed but the markings don’t move. I have moved them manually in Engrave Mode by clicking and dragging them but they “snap” back to their original place.

I highlight that the new option “Align pedal lines across width of system” is not activated.

It would be helpful to see one or two more examples of the problems you’re experiencing here. As I indicated in my initial reply in this thread, we’re aware of a problem where pedal lines that have altered vertical positions can end up interfering with each other when they’re aligned. Juerg’s project also indicates a problem with the horizontal offset not being correctly applied, which I am looking at.

I did some more testing with Dorico 6.1 regarding the vertical movements of pedal markings. With a Dorico template, the pedal markings can be moved vertically, but not with my own template. Which setting could be responsible for this? In Dorico 6.0.22 I can move them both.

Example with own template (vertical movement of Ped. not possible).dorico (1.3 MB)

I’ve also been sent a score where the option to align across system is turned off in Engraving Options but the pedals are still aligned and they both (a) do not react to dragging their handle and (b) do not react to the “Y offset” property.

I’ve not yet checked my existing project because of a deadline on another software, but I will try not to open any piano project in this version until it gets solved. Too risky.

I too had a pedal marking move in an existing file after the upgrade and cannot adjust it vertically in engrave move.
