Dorico 6.1 - Pedal lines in existing projects have been moved

So I opened the Dorico template file and indeed you can move the pedal markings you already have in the file. However, when I add another piano part, ped markings can not be moved vertically in that part. When I delete the pedal markings that were already in the original part and put in new pedal markings, those markings will can no longer be moved vertically.

I’ve just checked a piano accompaniment part, and the few explicitly visible pedal markings (most of the pedals in my file are “invisible”) have moved.
I can physically drag them with the mouse, but they immediately snap back to their initial “incorrect” position.
Setting vertical position in the lower zone has absolutely no effect.

This is definitely an issue for anyone who writes for piano.

Yes, for people who write for piano, it’s probably better to wait with the upgrade until this issue is resolved. Thanks for the feedback.

hi,

I opened in 6.1 a file made in version 5 and all “fake” boxes I made with the pedal line trick are totally off and cannot be adjusted vertically in engraver mode. Actually I need to do make changes and submit the score relatively soon. Can I downgrade to 6.0 for a while? Thanks

I’m not sure, but I think you can re-install 5.1 through the download assistant.

Previous version installers are available at the bottom of this page: Dorico 6 Downloads | Steinberg

Unless you’ve deleted them manually, previous Dorico 6 installation files should still be on your hard drive. The directory is listed in the Steinberg Activation Manager settings.

Thanks, just realized I still have installed Version 5, which is so last year!

I gave up trying to move the pedal marking out of the staff below and just added more space between the staves, so that it doesn’t look quite so stupid. Also, in the instructions for Engrave, it says to use the round handles….All I have are box handles in engrave. Round are in write mode but they won’t do anything. Siiiiiiiigggggggghhhhhh.

I am also having this issues with pedals in version 6.1. When moving pedal markings vertically in engrave mode, they snap back to their position. They also often collide with dynamics. The only way to fix this seems to be to move the dynamic.

I can confirm changes in engraving options have no effect on the vertical distance to other objects – only to the stave.

In addition, vertical movements are not possible any more, the y-offset is ignored.

(The new Pedal alignment option is not activated and the default Dorico project file w/o any changes is used, v6.1)

I can confirm that this is the case for me as well.

Me too

Same here.

I’ve played around more with this bug and noticed it only effects the Ped markings and not una corda or sostenuto markings. Those can be moved any direction. I did notice when adjusting the Y offset of a Ped marking it will adjust the vertical position of the other markings (U.C. and Sos.) but the Ped line itself does not move.

Unfortunately the same bug appears to affect the una corda line as well - it cannot be moved vertically, as least when not used in conjunction with a Pedal line.

Also, the option to start retakes before a grace note (in the properties panel) is broken.

I’m also experiencing this problem.

Dear Dorico team,

This bug also affects my scores. There are three things I see happening.

1)
With the ‘align pedal lines across with of system’ ticked off, whatever value I enter in the Y offset, all pedal marking and line stay unmoved and collide with slurs, dynamic markings and notes.

2)
With the ‘align pedal lines across with of system’ ticked on, the minimum distance between pedal lines in the engraving options don’t seem to do much. Although the overall looks of the lines appears to be okay, there might be a pedal marking colliding with dynamics, slurs or notes.

3)
With the ‘align pedal lines across with of system’ ticked on, the affected and selected (colliding) pedal line and markings will only shift downward, when the other pedal markings have shifted upward and can no longer shift upward.

Was this intended behaviour and am I missing something? Or can you reproduce this behaviour and is something unexpected going on? If so, is there a possible fix in the works?

I am also experiencing the same problem with piano music.

I can confirm the same problem. I’ve reverted to version 6.0.22 until this is resolved.
