Dorico 6 immediately crashes on IPad

I installed Dorico 6 on my IPad , but it doesn’t work at all. That means I can’t even start the app. If I click on the app icon, the app immediately crashes. My IPad OS is 14.7, so there can be issues with this old OS. But in this case the app should not be installable, but it is. So, if it is installable , it should work. Now I can’t return to the version 5 due to Apple restrictions and I am quite frustrated.
Please Steinberg, if the D6 version is not compatible with older IPad OS versions , don’t let the installation run and let people choose to install a compatible version, what other apps are offering.

You’re right, it shouldn’t even be possible to install on iPadOS 14 – it requires iPadOS 16. I was under the impression that this was taken care of automatically by the operating system, but I’ll investigate.

Thanks. But please change the behavior during the installation process. If it doesn’t work , it should not be installable. And please give the users the option to install the latest working version. In my case I’ve been fallen into a trap. I can’t use the new version and can’t install the older working version anymore. So, Dorico is gone at all.

I have exactly the same issue of Dorico 6 immediately crashing. Dorico 5 was working fine on my iPad with iPadOS 15.8.4

The upgrade to V6 was offered in the App Store with no indication that it required a later iPadOS version.

Now I have no Dorico at all, can’t go back to V5 and V6 is a no-go!

Any solution guys?

The App store claims Dorico is compatible with iPadOS 14.0 or newer. Not good.

Please be patient: we can’t solve problems (particularly in the App Store, where we have to submit updated versions of the app and get them through the capricious and arbitrary App Review process) in less than a day.

I merely wanted to draw your attention to the fact, that you had forgotten to change the compatibility info when you edited the rest of the info. In your own time.

Hi Daniel, thanks for the update.

I’m running 18.4.1 on my iPad. I opened Dorico this morning, for the first time in a couple days to see there’s an update to Dorico 6 unfortunately and i’ve encountering a couple (crash) problems so far rendering Dorico 6 unusable at this time.

  1. Can’t open Bluetooth piano keyboard : crashes every time. I’m going into the preference menus then hitting PLAY to get to the Bluetooth menu to connect and it crashes.
  2. Won’t Save work: After 30 minutes of entering new work into Dorico 6, closing and reopening the app I found that Dorico 6 was not saving my work. -The file was lost! Needless to say I’m not happy. What could be the problem be? As an educator I use Dorico pretty much every day. Thanks again.

UPDATE: It is saving my work now after reloading app to iPad. But still crashing on Bluetooth connection.

Sorry to hear that you lost work, and that you’re running into problems with Bluetooth MIDI connection. I’ve just tried my own BT-01 MIDI connection again with the current version, and everything seems fine. Can you see if you can dig out any crash logs from your device and attach them here?

Hello Daniel - same problem for me with dorico 6 on fully updated ipad pro - the app opens but then crashes when i am choosing settings in preferences - here are a few crash logs attached. Many thanks. dorico 6 ipad crashes.zip (53.0 KB)

It looks like the crash might be related to accessibility somehow, @PhilipJG. Do you have any non-standard accessibility settings activated?

It’s definitely related to Accessibility. I can 100% reproduce it by doing the following:

  1. Enable Assistive Touch
  2. Open a Dorico project, go to Preferences, tap Colors

However, Dorico doesn’t crash for me after disabling Assistive Touch.

Hello again, it’s working ok now (with all accessibility settings off) having also done a reset of all settings in iPad reset menu.

Thanks, I can confirm that when Assistive Touch is enabled, the app crashes when interacting with controls in dialogs. We will look into this as soon as we can.

I believe I’m having the same issues. I have ipad Air (M2) with OS 18.4.1. I just downloaded dorico for ipad and watched the Getting Started with Dorico for iPad video. The app opens. I “create new”, “create project” and crashes.

Same problem here, iPad Air M2, iPadOS 18.4.1, accessibility off, crashes always on launch.

all accessibility off.

Same reason in the crash report?

@Vadian When I saw your avatar, I thought that Tim Cook himself came here to help resolve the issue.
