I was working before with BBC SO and the native ones, but now I get no sound no matter the device output I select. I tried reassigning the instruments and stuff but no luck. I get no playback nor a single input note.
Dorico Diagnostics.zip (999.9 KB)
I’m uploading the diagnostics
Hi @sinnsage you can try following this advice:
And also check your mixer levels. And (in case thy are all very low) check in Preferences/Play/Mixer the Default Output Level, and after setting it, go in menu Play and choose Apply default output level
Did you tried also to reapply the playback template, I imagine?: menu Play/Playback Template… choose one and click Apply and close
Yes, it was one of the first things I did.
Checking the previous advice I was able to hear the metronome so I guess the problem is with something else instead of the output device settings.
Going to re-install everything right now and see how it goes.
Hi @sinnsage ,
looking at the diagnostics, your problem is, that no plug-ins (except for the Steinberg built-in effect plugs) do get recognised, neither VST2 nor VST3, especially not the BBCSO plug.
Please have a look at C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2 and C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3, are they empty? And if they are, would you have an explanation for it?
Yes they are empty because my C drive is only for windows. I keep my VSTs on another drive but I made sure to add the folders inside Dorico.
I also do keep a shortcut folder inside C>ProgramFiles>Common Files>VST2 and 3.
Is there a proper way to do it?
For the VST2 plug-ins you don’t need the symbolic links, because VST2s can live anywhere, you just have to tell Dorico in the preferences dialog, where it has to look for them.
With VST3 Steinberg made the specs more restrictive in that it says that all VST3 must be installed to C:/Program Files/Common File/VST3.
When I googled , yes, you can work with links, have a look e.g. at this site
But mind you, you need to be careful with installing plug-in updates. The installers might not recognize the links and you have undefined behaviour of what will actually happen. I just want to mention it, so everything you do, do at your own risk.
I’m going to move back to C and see how it works. Thanks for the tip.
