Please undo everything you did so far in response to my last posting.
Then take a look again. In your C drive you have no folder C:\Program Files ?
The log files say:
" AppFullPath: C:/Program Files/Steinberg/Dorico5/VSTAudioEngine/VSTAudioEngine5.exe"
and then you also must have a folder called ‘Common Files’ within the Program Files folder. Please check again.
Hi Ulf, I dont have any Program Files Folder on my C disk, I also did a search on disk C for a Program Files folder but didnt find anything. I have tried using the path you did give me but I didnt get any result from that and I also have undone the things from your last posting. Jan
Another Finale transplant here.
Same problem. Windows 10, Dorico 5 Pro
Tried the “restart Dorico while watching the Windows Task Manager” process. Nothing resembling a VST Audio Engine. Only the Dorico (3) app.
Do not know enough about other suggestions to attempt them.
Thank you,
BobCates
Please let me know if I should get out of this thread and start another.
Did a Windows explorer search for “VSTAudioEngine5.exe”, and found (2) files:
VSTAudioEngine5.exe.1692.dmp
located in C:\Users\Robert\AppData\Local\CrashDumps
VSTAudioEngine5
located at C:\ProgramFiles\Steinberg\Dorico5\VSTAudioEngine5
Again, please let me know if I should bow out and start another thread.
Thank you,
BobCates

Hi @murdocc_2015 , can we have a remote screen sharing session, please? I’ll send you a private message via the forum, please check.
Hi @bobcates,
that VSTAudioEngine5.exe.1692.dmp file you found is very important, so pleae zip it up and attach it to a reply here.
How far does Dorico start up with you? Do you get to the Hub window where you can choose a project to load?
Good morning,
Will be in/out of house most of today/evening, so no hurry in response.
I nay be slightly off topic here as I can open and use Pro 5 (including all of the frustrations of a “newbie from Finale”.
My problem is that I cannot get any volume during playback.
According to your request, I am attaching the zi

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Ulf,
yes, of course we can have a remote screen sharing session. I am in Sweden so i think we are in the same time zone.
Tomorrow, Friday works fine for me maybe something like between 13.00 and 17.00, which works best for you ?
Jan
Hi Jan,
13:00 hours is perfect for me, I have already booked it for me.
I will send you a Zoom hyperlink tomorrow shortly before 13 hours.
And you could prepare for a mic and headphone.
See you tomorrow
Ulf
Perfect. Jan
Hi @bobcates ,
so if you can open Dorico, then please do and start a new project from piano template, enter some arbitrary notes and then choose from Dorico’s menu the item Help > Create Diagnostics Report. The corresponding zip file, please post to an answer here.
Thank you very much
ULF,
I think that this is what you requested. See attached.
FYI, I can hear the notes as I entered them, but very faintly.

Ulf,
Quick Followup:
Just tried opening my 1st file, that I am using to try to learn Pro 5. Rcv’d a popup questioning Do I want to “Activate Playback for this project? This will cause all required VST plug-ins to be loaded, and allow this project to be played back. Remember my choice. Activate or Do Not Activate.”
Have never encountered this before.
Just one additional piece of information as you consider my “problem”, whenever you get to it.
Thank you
BobCates
Usually that happens when one has another Dorico file already open. It prevents waiting for sounds to load every time one switches from one to the other by keeping one file’s sound active and the other one silent.
Acknowledged. That was the situation.
Thank you,
BobCates
Hi @bobcates ,
thanks for the diagnostics data, from what I see everything looks normal. My question is, if you go to Play mode and then bring up the HALSonic plug-in window (click the red circled button)
does the HALion Sonic window come up? Furthermore, do you get any level metering flickering when clicking with the mouse on the virtual on-screen keyboard. You should also be able to hear something via your headphones. Does that do?
Thanks, Ulf,
Negative on flickering on level meter. Again, just barely heard notes from speaker(s).
Attached are JPG’s of Halion Sonic screenshots.
No headphones plugged in. Sound goes to auxiliary speaker(s) via USB plug-in on back of computer.
Thank you,
BobCates
Hi @bobcates , when you do Edit > Device Setup and click on the Device Control Panel button, can you please take a screenshot of that window? I suspect that you have to adjust the output ports in there.
