If you select an event (audio recording) and then slice the respective track, it will slice all events only on the track, but not on all tracks in the group editing folder (=). After that, if you use comp tool on it, the comping will work only on the single track (in my case only for the room microphone). I think this should be fixed.
Hi,
To cut them all at once, make the Cut on the Folder level.
Yes. Or select one and cut it. Same result. This is a bug anyway. Recently i was editing drums and at the end found out that one cut on a single microphone is out of place. Ended up muting the microphone for that place, because it was all buggy.
Hi,
Did you read the manual about it, please? There you can find the specification, so you can find is it’s a bug or wanted behaviour.
Yes. “Edit actions in Group Editing mode affect all grouped events, parts, or ranges.” The bug is with slicing not with compig.
Although the manual does not mention wanted behaviour of selecting an event and slicing it (whare all tracks in group editing folder are sliced).
It sure is a bug when editing multichannel recordings within the lanes system using the Comp Tool to split/select.
With that method the selection across multiple tracks will NOT follow (and you have to open all lanes on all track to doublecheck).
BUT… When using the good old Splitting Tool (or holding Alt + left mouse click) to split at wanted places first… Then use the Comp Tool for selecting the right lane/event = Will select the same events/lanes on all tracks in the group/group folder (group editing on).
I have given up reporting a looong time ago… as it has not been answered or commented for at least a decade.
I have also given them the description above (in a much more detailed explaination - which is in a post or two in here somewhere).
PS. I will try find the links to my other posts on the issue later today or tomorrow…
In the meantime try to search in my username (it may also be in my previous username, but I’ll look into that)
Try reading through all my suggestions and explainations in this post first (my workaround):
PS. The BUG is within the COMP TOOL when editing multitrack recordings (even with the group editing set to on).
Use another method for splitting at wanted places first… then select events/lanes with the Comp Tool, and the same event/lane should be selected across all tracks in the folder (again, when group editing is set on).
Here I found one from 2014 (under my former username iBM). At that time I had allready reported my findings (and workaround).
The subject has been raised on several occasions between then and now… But Steinberg have NEVER answered or commented on this BUG. Thay have showed NO interest what so ever to look into or fix it (based on their complete silence on this issue).
PS. I can feel I’m starting the get a bit “warm” here… so I’ll stop there… for now
Simply put - if the group editing is enabled for a folder, it should not be possible to edit a single track with out all the rest going with it. No matter if lanes for all tracks are open or something selected or what tools are being used.
I absolutely agree… But after fighting for a fix on this for well over a decade… I have given up.
The only way I have found around this bug, is the way described above (and in my links).
Sad to say, the “trick” of NOT to use the Comp Tool for splitting (drag selection) has now been ingrained in my workflow.
If splitting with the Split Tool (either by changing the tool at the tool bar or by using Alt + Left Click)… You DON’T have to have the Lanes open for more than one track when selecting the wanted event/lane.
The Comp Tool works for picking the right lane/take/event… But not until you have split the tracks in the traditional way.
Sorry to say, I have NEVER gotten an answer or explaination on this issue (neither have anyone else)… And I am flabbergasted that so few people have SCREAMED out loud about this BUG.
I have given up reporting, but supports anyone else who do… I also try to tell them my workflow in the event that it may help others.
PS. As always, do your testing on a test project or a copy of your project (yes, it took me some time to “trust” what have become my workaround).
