Empty Inter App list in Cubasis 3.8.5

I purchased Cubasis to record from my several other softwares that are Inter App. Since May 2026 I did not upgrade. Now in 3.8.5 after upgrade I have an empty Inter-App list. Background audio is on. If I select Instruments and Inter App I can see AUM and another one, all the other are not there anymore ( 6-7 missing). Should I understand that the 3.8.5 does not support any Routing using Inter App? Why is the option there anyway and listed on the Appstore that it supports Inter-App? IOsS 26.3.1. Any similar problems with 3.8.5? It is nowhere mentioned in the update that it has lost Inter-App

Hi @Mikka,

Thanks for your message.

First of all, please note that Inter-App Audio is no longer supported by Apple and has been replaced by Audio Unit v3 (AUv3), which also offers many more features and greater flexibility.

Regarding the issue you’re experiencing, please try the following steps:

  • Double-check that Background Audio is enabled under Setup > Audio.
  • Close all apps and restart your iOS device.
  • Launch the standalone versions of your third-party apps first.
  • Then launch Cubasis.

Does this help resolve the problem?

Best regards,
Lars

Hi Lars,

Thank your for the quick reply! I was aware of AUV3, but since I din not upgrade the IOS since May and only upgraded now Cubasis 3.8.5, I deducted that might be the issue. I switched off the Ipad for 30 seconds. I have reinstalled Cubasis. I have switched on Background audio in the Audio in Setup. I launched first the standalone version of the app, of the apps, I tried all. I tried with AUM. List is still empty in Audio/Inter-App - not even AUM. If audio track is selected, Media, Instruments, Inter-App I can see AUM Ports. Otherwise blank. For now, best advice…do not upgrade if Inter App was working before. Now Inter App list is empty.

Hi @Mikka,

I took a quick look at the issue. Cubasis 3.8.5 loads Inter-App Audio plug-ins without any problems on my end. Please see the example clip below.

Is it possible that you accidentally tried to load an IAA plug-in onto an audio track when it only supports MIDI tracks, or something similar?

Best,
Lars

Hi! Before upgrading, I was able to start an audio track, select Routing, Inter-App Audio and select the Inter App application from the list. I was able to record on the audiotrack. I could play and record on multiple tracks at once different apps from Lumbeat. It was not about the midi tracks. Version 3.8.3… I believe.

Hi @Mikka,

Am I correct in understanding that the issue also occurs in AUM? If so, please share the report with Jonatan as well, so we can find out whether he is aware of any possible cause.

I will also forward the report to our engineering team.

Again, I would strongly recommend moving forward with AUv3, as it offers significantly more features and flexibility. Additionally, IAA is no longer supported by Apple.

Best regards,
Lars

Hi Lars! I wish I would have the apps as AUv3, but depends on developers to update them and they are slow. I managed to recover from backup the 8.3.3 version and I m fine. No more upgrades to 8.3.5. Here are the print screens from my Iphone( 8.3.5) for a midi track and for an audio track. Midi Inter-App lists AUM but not the apps. Audio Inter-App option has an empty list.

Hi Lars,
I just opened a past project that had a IAA app (TC-Data) loaded into the Inter-App Audio Routing on Audio track 3, the output of this app was Routed into the MIDI input of track 1, the MIDI output of track 1 is Routed into track 2 (J6 Synth).

After first pre-launching TC-Data, I was able to tap on the TC-Data app on track 3 to open it inside Cubasis, I select track 1 and hit the Record tab in Cubasis and then move my fingers around on the TC-Data surface, the resulting MIDI was then recorded onto track 1 and the Audio came from track 2 (J6 Synth). But now after I opened the Routing on track 3 and selected Inter-App Audio, the TC-Data app suddenly disappeared and now there is no IAA selection! This only happened after the Cubasis 3.8.5 update, please see screenshots below

After selecting Routing > Inter-App on track 3

Hi @Mikka, Hi @fixitmania53

Thanks for reporting this issue. A fix for the empty Inter-App Audio app list will be included in the next Cubasis update.

Best,
Lars

Hi Lars,
Thank you, that’s good to know.

Hi Lars … I understand that there is a fix in the works for the InterApp Audio list, but here’s some more info just in case it influences your fix for the Inter App Audio List. AudioBus 3 has the identical problem. I use InterApp Audio to connect AudioShare to Cubasis … I use AudioShare to route my prerecorded backing tracks (harmony vocals, extra guitars, etc) into Cubasis. When I open my template everything seems normal, with AudioShare loaded on it’s dedicated channel with InterApp Audio. The mixer shows that it’s getting the feed from AudioShare and I can hear it. When I start recording, everything still seems normal … the AudioShare channel in the Arrangement window shows that it’s recording. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears on that channel, but is fine on all the other channels that were recording. When I go to the audio folder, all there is from the AudioShare channel is a 4 kb audio file of silence, while all the other channels have a 900 Mb audio file. When I go to Routing on that channel there is no list, although it shows AudioShare loaded. When I switch from InterApp Audio to AudioBus, there is no list there either and I’m unable to load anything. When I switch back to InterApp Audio, AudioShare is gone and I am unable to load anything.

As far as I’m aware there are only two solutions for routing audio from other apps into Cubasis … InterApp Audio and AudioBus, and for a few reasons InterApp Audio works much better than AudioBus for my work flow … flawlessly actually. I wish there was an AUv3 solution, but there is none that I’ve been able to find that will play a playlist … I do have AUM, but it’s of no use in my workflow.
